Guest guest
You sound hypo which I guess is from the RT3. Have you had cortisol testing? Ferritin? Vit D, Vit B12? Are you on T3 only? Kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Thu, June 3, 2010 12:13:04 PMSubject: Weight and thyroid Just wanted to touch on this. For the past few years with the high stress and hypo symptoms, I have gained weight in the middle.....feeling a little pudgy and about 20 lbs overweight for my height and all. But when I crashed in March, I lost like 15 lbs. really quickly. I'm sure part of it is because I stopped eating bread, sugar, gluten, white rice, potatoes, etc. But I just wondered if anyone else LOST weight instead of gained. Because I still have the hypo symptoms, but have had a lot of adrenal issues in the past as well. My feet are always freezing, I'm exhausted, I have air hunger, hard to keep my eyes open, my heels are dry and cracking, I am very sensitive to heat AND cold, I have brain fog and am lethargic. (My reverse ratio is 10.78). What does this sound like to anyone, please? I also experience periods of hair loss, and my nails are bad. Guest guest
Kitty, I had cortisol testing done in November, and I was high in the a.m.s, and bottomed out a bit in the evening. I am on 22.5 hc per day. I had ferritin test done yesterday. Dr. has me taking b-12 shots, as b12 was some low. I supplement 5000 Vit. D3 per day. I WAS on Naturethroid, only 1/2 gr, but doctor took me off of that 3 weeks ago, and I'm on NOTHING until my t3 comes in. A very nice friend is "lending" me some of hers until my supply arrives, but seems our mail is being a pain, and it was mailed last Friday and still hasn't gotten here yet. I'm getting frustrated. Pretty sure my doctor will put me on it, but of course she wants to see the labs first, and it will probably be a week before she gets them in and makes her decision. Guest guest
If you ordered from the mexican source it can take up to a month to get here! The other thing to check would be aldosterone. If you are dehydrated from low sodium that can cause you to be super dry. I know I was. Guest guest
Kitty, My sodium level 3 weeks ago was 139 (range - 135-146). How do we get so "out of whack"? Crazy! My weight for the past two months now has stayed at 150 - 152 lbs. My doctor also has me on a candida diet (strict), and I've been on it for over 3 weeks...have 4 days left to go on the really strict part. Can low ferritin levels give you shortness of breath? Or what is it about being hypo that does that? I know not everyone has the same symptoms...ugh. I guess when I get my Cytomel in, I will turn around and reorder it! Crazy that it takes so long to get here. I don't understand that at all! It's bad enough that our local postal service stinks, and mail going OUT from here will get somewhere in 2 to 3 days, but coming in is more like 4 to 6 days! That's Conroe, TX for ya. Law enforcement on every corner, and two in between, but the postal service stinks! Guest guest
Joan, Your sodium is low, did you have aldosterone checked? Do you supplement salt at all? I don't know if low ferritin can cause shortness of breath, I know hypothyroid can. I forget why, I guess just lack of energy to the cells so you become overall fatigued? Hopefully someone will answer this better for you! kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Thu, June 3, 2010 12:44:54 PMSubject: Re: Weight and thyroid Kitty, My sodium level 3 weeks ago was 139 (range - 135-146). Guest guest
Nope not the same, but I think Val just answered this Aldosterone is an adrenal steroid that regulates sodium. Guest guest
I ended up needing florinef. It is a mineralcorticoid that mimics aldosterone. I also started taking progesterone, estrogen and testosterone cream and my salt need and swelling have gone down. I think aldosterone is made from progesterone, all three of my sex hormones were really low I think from the steroids. Have you done the self tests for low aldosterone? Guest guest
I HAVE done the flashlight pupil test, and I think I do alright on it. My ND had me on progesterone and estrogen creams....the new doctor took me off of them and put me on progesterone, bio-identical, it's called PROGEST +5% (50 MG/ML cream). She has me on 3 ML a.m., and 3 ML p.m. It definitely helped reduce my symptoms that I had last month. What is the dizzy test? I don't really get dizzy standing, but how do you do it? This is all adrenal gland related, isn't it? Guest guest
You would know about the dizzy thing If you are sitting for a while and stand up real fast, just stand up and go to walk, you will feel faint. All the blood would drain from my face! I would often feel like I was going to faint and had a few occassions where I actually did... It is adrenal yes, I think I have addison's which is adrenal failure but doctors are useless until you are near dead with it. The adrenals produce aldosterone. My pupils flutter from normal light within 10seconds so they were really bad. My aldosterone was 4 range is <=21 so really low. Guest guest
Kitty, are you on hc? That has really seemed to stabilize my adrenals. I'm also on Pandrenol that Dr. Lam recommends and lots of vitamin C. My adrenals were in pretty bad shape due to issues with crazy teens and their problems for years. (Talking major). And I think that Janie on STTM facebook told me that the 1/2 gr Naturethroid I was taking for my thyroid was woefully inadequate. I'm guessing the stress or cortisol issues I was having caused me to reverse back in March. Crappy that everything has to sort of be guess sometimes, isn't it?
