Shelli,

I started with the cream while waiting for the HC pills to come.

Ramped up per the schedule in the Files under How to Treat Adrenals. I

use the calculated conversion of 1/4 tsp cream equals 10 mg HC. So my

dose schedule is

1/4 tsp, 1/8 tsp plus 1/16 tsp, 1/8 tsp, 1/8 tsp, 1/8 tsp for a total of

32.5 mg. (I plan to drop to 30 mg, but am under a lot of stress right

now, so have put that off a while). I occasionally take a pill dose, and

so far can't tell any difference between a cream dose and a pill dose. I

do notice a bit of difference between brands of HC cream. So far I like

the equate brand from Walmart (ugh!) the best.

I hate the taste of the HC on my tongue even the brief time before

swallowing, so lately have been putting the piece of HC pill into an

empty capsule. Today I put a dose into a small capsule, then put that

into a larger one. This may be helping avoid any stomach irritation.

Drawback to the pills is the stomach irritation, HC needs to be taken

with food, and the fact it needs to be ordered overseas if you are self

treating or can't get an adequate Rx dose from your doctor. Drawback to

the cream is it isn't always easy to use when you are at work, or out in

public and its time for a dose.

Positives for the cream are it is OTC and inexpensive. Avaliable all

over the place. And it completely avoids the stomach/digestion problems

some have with HC. Some people find the cream works better than the

pills because of poor absorption throught the GI tract. Some people

don't feel they absorb a cream dose as well as a pill dose. So it is an

individual thing and can't be easily generalized that one is better than

the other.

But the ointment is very greasy, and I don't think the HC in it would

be absorped nearly as well, as it tends ot sit on top of the skin, just

like smearing yourself with vaseline and expecting that to completely

sink into the skin.

Is this the ordinary hc cream you use to treat ezcema or is it

something else like the progesterone creams? If you could give me a

name for it that would be useful so I can try some?

Just look for 1% hydrocortisone cream That is what you want. It is called

different things in different stores here and with you being in (UK?), it may be

called something different from ours. My guess is that it IS the " ordinary "

cream you suggest.
