Guest guest
If you don't need your son to take a bus, you CAN choose what school you think is best for your child. We were in Hollywood, and had our son in the place program in Hawkes Bluff in Weston. You are a parent who does have a say in your child's education, especially if the child has special needs, and requires a specific fit that is appropriate for his individual needs. Also, while I agree that Baudhuin is a great school, it is does not necessarily mean it is the right fit for every child on the spectrum. We had a choice of any school for pre-k (because we fought for it), including Baudhuin and we choose a place program the first year, then when his teacher left, went to another closer place program the next year (Sheridan Hills). For my son, having other children in the class who were not socially delayed (only slightly lang delayed) were excellent models for him socially. At Baudhuin, he would not have received socially typical peer models, unless he was one of the lucky few who got into the integrated class, which has a limited # of spots and only when they are in their last year (and with almost zero issues). It is definitely a matter of opinion what is the " best " place for each child, and as a parent only you should be able to make that choice. I would go take a tour of the schools to get an idea of what you think would fit your son, and ask a lot of questions. > > Margaret, > Â > you need to ask your school district where they want to place him (otherwise we won't get a bus, for example). You are in the public school system now. This is no longer up to you. It is not a private school. > The good thing is that there is probably a cluster site at the school they have in mind for him, so when he is ready for kindergarten you can keep him at the same place should he need a cluste class. > Nothing can beat Baudhuin. Do what you can to get him in there. Have you seen the school? If not, I highly recommend you go there to see it. Take a look at the Family Center too. It is so inspiring and amazing! > Good luch. > Â > H.T. > > ________________________________ > From: lukej325 > To: sList > Sent: Friday, March 2, 2012 1:52 PM > Subject: Pre K-3 Complex Place Programs in Davie > > > Â > Hi everyone, > This group has been amazing for our family. Thanks to everyone for all the support and communication. My son is soon to be placed in a Pre K-3 Complex Place Program. We are in the Silver Ridge, Baudhin zone. Those two are my first choice but if they are full does anyone know what other schools have great programs for this age group. Any help would be greatly appreciated. > > Thanks, > > Margaret >
