Guest guest
Hi! I will try to make this as short as possible. In the fall of 2009 I found out that I suffer from rT3 dominance and mild adrenal fatigue. I started taking hydrocortisone and slowly worked my way up to 20 mg, and then stayed on that dose for several months. When I had been on HC for a few weeks I started taking T3 and followed the instructions on the website. Some time during the first weeks on T3 only I had my ferritin measured and it was 62 which I assumed was fine so I didn´t bother supplementing with iron. I slowly increased the T3 and weeks and then months passed by but I didn´t notice any major improvements. My constipation resolved completely which to me was a sure sign that I was doing something right since I have suffered from chronic constipation for many, many years. My skin also got slightly softer and the cramps in my head got somewhat better but that was basically it, most of my symptoms remained unchanged. I continued slowly raising the dose and got to 100 mcg but I didn´t notice any new improvements. I don´t know exactly where my recovery almost stopped but I would say it was somewhere around 60 mcg. Then, when on 100 mcg T3, I suddenly got swelling in my ankles and feet. Around the same time I started feeling extremely tired and I my appetite increased a lot. To me it seemed like high cortisol symptoms so I decided to wean off the HC but the symptoms didn´t go away. I then decided to try lowering the T3 dose and that helped. That was a few weeks ago and I now take 80 mcg T3, the high cortisol symptoms are almost gone and now I have noticed some of my low cortisol symptoms returning. So I have decided to start taking HC again. So what I am wondering if how you think I should proceed from here. Why do you think my body reacted the way it did? And why am I not recovering? Could it be that I need more than 20 mg HC? Or could it be low iron despite a ferritin of 62? I did two RBC mineral analyses 2-3 years ago and both times my iron was borderline low but I didn´t supplement iron then since I didn´t think it was necessary, so I assume the result would be about the same if I would redo the test now. The results: Iron 2007: 441,9 (440-480) Iron 2008: 445,7 (440-480) Adrenals (saliva): Post awakening: 18,9 (12-22) +4-5 hours: 1,6 (5-9) +4-5 hours: 3,4 (3-7) Prior to sleep: 1,1 (1-3) DHEA Mean: 0,3 (0,4-1,47) Is the iron low enough to cause a problem? How much HC should I take? Is there anything else I can do? I would really appreciate any help!
Guest guest
I think your low iron is preventing the T3 from working properly.
