Hi : to raise ferritin, 150-200 mg of elemental iron is recommended

daily. This adds up to between 5 and 7 of the bluebonnet 27 mg capsules.

Taking it at the same time as Vitamin C will help iron absorption. Also, taking

it in two doses may help absorption as well, I've read that the body can only

absorb so much iron at one time.

In my experience it takes a lot more iron to raise ferritin than it does to

maintain it. So hopefully after ferritin is raised, the maintenance dose of

iron may be lower.

Probably because for most people, that is a LOT of iron! These are not sold as

medical supplements for anemia, so that's probably why they don't come in higher

strenths. Solgar makes the same form of Iron called Gentle Iron and it comes in

180 capsule bottles for about $15 at www.iherb.com so it's fairly reasonable.

It's only 25 per cap but it works well for me.
