Guest guest
Pamela, I have a book about overgrowth Yeast and I went to my ob/gyn and requested certain yeast test that was mentioned in the book. Also I'am very !! prone to getting yeast infections at the drop of a hat. I take diflucan alot. Anyway I done the blood work and He had no idea why I wanted this test. My test came back negative, and I really don't know if they knew what they were doing. Let me know what you decide because I'am interested on that view point. What State do you live in? Guest guest
I am in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am not sure that they do a specific test. I think they go off of symptoms to determine yeast overgrowth at this fibro clinic. I also get them frequently and end up treating myself at least every other month. I probably could once a month really, but try to wait (I just hate it that I have to treat so often). So I am interested in what this diet is, and will probably try it, because I have no good reason not to at least try. What will it hurt? I will post the details when I know them. Guest guest
I haven't tried any dietary solution to yeast, although it makes sense that it could be controlled/cured with a particular diet, since it's a system-wide infection. I'd be VERY interested in hearing what they recommend to you as the yeast killing diet. I have a long-standing (at least two or three years long) yeast overgrowth issue that I've been dealing with it. I've taken Diflucan, and used all the creams, etc, and nothing has ever really touched it. It'll get a bit better if I remember to use Lotrimin lotion every 3 to 5 hours round the clock for a few days. Problem is, I can't often comply with this schedule because I'll be gone for the day, or because I just plain forget. And the first time that I " miss " a dose, the yeast returns just as bad, if not worse. It's painful, and not to be too graphic, but it smells bad :-( So if they give you a diet that wouldn't be that difficult to follow (or even if it would , please pass it along to me - I'd be more than happy to be a guinea pig to see if this helps any ;-) Thanks!! - At 04:15 PM 1/28/02 -0700, you wrote: >I just wanted to get your aspect on this. From what I've read, they really don't have a good test to measure excess yeast. Some people claim to determine this from stool samples, other from urine or blood. They really don't know how much yeast each person should have unless you're obviously gone into the too much range with itching. The symptoms that that some people attribute to yeast overgrowth is just about everything under the sun!! My doctor had me on diflucan (an anti yeast pill) for months because of a possible resistant vaginal yeast infection (which it turned out I didn't have). It made no difference whatsoever to my fibro symptoms. Other people may truly have an overgrowth of yeast, but I didn't. If this clinic is so successful in their treatment of fibro, why aren't their methods being used everywhere? That said, unless it's costing you big bucks out of pocket, it might be worth it to go through their clinic to see if any of it does help you. Guest guest
, I will definitely post any information that I receive tonight. I did have a co-worker do a yeast-starving diet several years ago, and from what I remember, it cut out all forms of sugar. She could eat a limited number of corn chips, but not bread, wheat, sugar, juice, fruit (except for green bananas and green apples). I think she could eat all veggies (maybe not carrots or corn, not sure) and I believe all proteins. I will let you know. It will be GREAT to do this with someone! I would love it if you did this with me, and we can compare notes. Oh, I think she ate a lot of yogurt with acidopholus. Anway, now I am much more excited to do this, if I am not doing it by myself! Tell you about it later. Guest guest
Darcy, I can definitely relate to your questions. I have the same ones. I am going to go and see what it's about, but I definitely have a jaundice eye! I will try the diet. That can't hurt. If I feel it is a gimick, then I will not be spending tons of money on these things. I don't have it to spend, so that decision is easy. I did read on a fibro website, about the overgrowth of yeast, and that is why people with fibro crave chocolate so much. When I read it I thought, everyone craves chocolate! I didn't take this very seriously. Anyway, I have the same sceptic questions. I am interested to see what they say. Guest guest
Hi All, Had to jump in here and say that, I went into a Nutrition Center the other dy and she mentioned something about Yeast. She gave me a leaflet and a questionaire and explained to me what it was all about, I will try and scan it for you all. Give me a few hours.... Me stopped smoking 2 1/2 weeks ago and is dying for a Cig now... arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... lol Hugs Odette XxxX Yeast I am attending a workshop at a local fibromyalgia cinic tomorrow night (this has to be attended before being seen in their clinic). Apparently one of the first steps for treatment in the clinic is a special diet that kills the yeast in your body. They told me that 80% of the people that come into the clinic have yeast overgrowth and this makes the fibro so much worse. They said that people with fibro generally have this problem. They also claim that they can almost eliminate all symptoms of fibro in 3-6 months with their program, and eliminate the need for medications. They do this through diet, massage, physical therapy, and chiropractics. I am leery. I absolutely believe in diet, exercise, and even supplementation. I am leery on any " claim " that they can completely " cure " something like this. I am also leery on self-medicating with supplements, knowing that some of them can be dangerous and conflict with each other, or with medications. I do not have reason to believe, yet, that this clinic does dietary supplementation, or herbs, etc... but am gearing up for this to be presented (I guess I am a skeptic at this point). They only mentioned the " diet " aspect to me on the phone, as far as starving yeast. I just wanted to get your aspect on this. Has anyone heard of this yeast issue? Has anyone here ever tried a diet that starves the yeast, and did you have results? I am not interested on loading up on dietary supplements, other than basic vitamins and minerals, but am interested in any food program that may help (as far as eliminating certain substances, or increasing). Would love to get all your thoughts on this, and if this clinic sounds ligitimate to you. Sincerely, Pamela Rauch

I feel that it is one of those places that just want your money. For you to buy their products. If you are taking medications then I would be very leery about mixing them. I would guess the reason that you have to go to a meeting before hand is that they can tell you all about the product, how you are going to be well soon. My guess is that the cost is high. Although going to the meeting wont hurt, take care in getting involved. Something that sounds this good usually isn't. Guest guest
Hi Pamela, I have heard/read of Candidiasis as being a " possible " cause of FMS. Candida albicans is a type of parasitic yeastlike fungus that inhabits the intestines, genital tract, mouth, esopagus, and throast. Normally this fungus lives in healthy balance with the other bacteria and yeasts in the body. Certain conditions can cause it to multiply. It weakens the immune system, travels to many parts of the body and causes infection--candidiasis. Symptoms are: constipation, diarrhea, colitis, abdominal pain, headaches, bad breath, rectal itching, memory loss, mood swings, canker sores, persistent heartburn, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, congestion, nagging cough, numbness in face or extremities, tingling sensations, acne, night sweats, severe itching, clogged sinuses, PMS, burning tongue, white spots on the tongue & mouth, extreme fatigue, vaginitis, kidney and bladder infections, arthritis, depression, hyper & hypothyroid, adrenal problems, and even diabetes. Symptoms worsen in damp or moldy places and after consumption of foods containing sugar or yeast. (Maybe that's why the low carb diet has helped people) Systemic candida is an overgrowth of candida everywhere, In the most severe cases it can travel through the bloodstream causing it to invade every organ system in the body, causing a type of blood poisoning called candida septicemia. (info from Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Balch,MD & Balch CNC) I think it is a good idea to do some sort of protocol for candida, dietwise. As for supplements, that would be your choice. There's usually not many that are contraindicated with drugs. Herbs are another matter always check on the CI's of herbs with meds. Of course, if you trust your doctor to be honest about alternative approaches you should definitely get his opinion or someone else who is informed. Good luck in your decision, Kit
