Guest guest
Hi, I go to have my last quadrant of amalgams removed on Wednesday, and I'm wondering about something that i haven't seen discussed here. That is, amalgam stains on the teeth after removing the fillings. I've asked my dentist about it (and he's quite good, full protocol, etc.) he uses some things like a chelating agent and laser to try to reduce this, after the fillings are out, and before any replacement goes in. He also drills out any cavities that have been formed underneath. He says that the stains, which seem to be rather deeply embedded in the tooth (after 30+ years!) canleech material into the system and then he tries to remove it. But there is just so much he can do, it seems, as there is still (what seems to me) quite a bit of staining, which will be there under any restorations. Another doc in his office says that they can't really grind all the amalgam stain away, as it would get too close to the tooth nerve, and one would lose the tooth. Have any of you all noticed this issue when your amalgams were removed, and is it an issue for chelation? thanks, NJ
