Guest guest
I have distinctly reddish urine that occurred suddenly. I finished a long round (one week) on Saturday, and take 50 mg DMSA with 12.5 mg ALA. That was an increase in ALA for me, and I took DMSA a day and a half longer because I'd had symptoms with the new ALA dosage. My intention is to start a new round Friday or Saturday. I've been chelating 3 months and tolerate DMSA well. I sensed the last round was pulling out a lot more mercury than I'd seen before (very strong urine, symptoms from ALA, etc.). Hopefully this is not blood in the urine, but if it is, how do I determine if I need to see my doctor? She is not close and the office is closed Friday-Sunday. A pH test strip shows 6.0 - more acid, which I believe is better for urine or kidney infection. I have no other symptoms (and I definitely know what a bladder infection feels like). If my urine is clear by evening or am, can I assume it's a food or supplement source? For example, I cooked beets for lunch -- could this cause urine discoloration? Green foods definitely cause it to turn greenish. Could my Vit A/Carotene supplement do this after a few days of use (it is a new one for me from Vitamin Shoppe - a very dark red capsule)? Anything else? If it is blood, are there any supplements in the protocol I should stop immediately that would be harmful? Would a kidney herbal formula be appropriate? If redistribution or higher level of mercury is causing it, should I take DMSA? Or take time away from chelating? There have been occasions in the past where this has happened, and it's lasted only a day or two. My doctor doesn't yet know a thing about this protocol unless she ordered a book after my January appointment; she's an EDTA chelation advocate and is supporting me, but is skeptical. The closest doctor that's familiar with frequent dosing is 4 hours away. I don't want to visit a local mainstream doctor while doing chelation unless absolutely necessary. Thanks for any help on this. Joanne

The red urine happens to me every time. >Could my Vit A/Carotene supplement do this after a few >days of use (it is a new one for me from Vitamin Shoppe - a very dark >red capsule)? Anything else? Yes, the dyes in the capsule are bad news. Put it in a glass of water and see how red the water goes as it dissolves. Those dyes need to go somewhere. Best to get un-dyed capsules.
