Guest guest
Hi, With regard to lithium orotate supplementation are there any concerns to note? We can only get it in 120mg form here. If we break into quarters they are very small and that makes 30mg (Too small to get another accurate split) This 30mg seems to be the highest dose (5-30mg I've got noted as the range Andy suggesting). Would that be too much to take as a once off dose? Is it best to take in the morning? How long can one supplement for and what dose one expect to feel from supplementation of it? It is for people with a history of emotional instability and a lithium reading on hair test that is below the detectable level. Thanks, Dean

Are you sure? You are looking for the amount of elemental lithium. VRP's lithium orotate for example says: Lithium Orotate 120 mg * (providing 4.8 mg elemental lithium) > If we break into quarters they are very small and that makes 30mg (Too small to get another accurate split) > This 30mg seems to be the highest dose (5-30mg I've got noted as the range Andy suggesting). Where does Andy recommending that dose range? I haven't seen that, so if you can give a page number or link, I'd appreciate. -- > Would that be too much to take as a once off dose? > Is it best to take in the morning? > How long can one supplement for and what dose one expect to feel from supplementation of it? > > It is for people with a history of emotional instability and a lithium reading on hair test that is below the detectable level. > > Thanks, > Dean > >

Thanks for that. >Where does Andy recommending that dose range? I haven't >seen that, so if you can give a page number or link, I'd appreciate. There is no concrete suggestion in his book that I can find. Am working from old posts. Here are old posts from Andy. Suggestion is 1-2 capsules with meals. That would equate to 10 -30 mg per day with three meals = 1- 6 capsules. http://onibasu.com/archives/am/43287.html http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Autism-Mercury/message/43287 http://onibasu.com/archives/am/151944.html In another post it mentions that lithium modulates brain glutamine levels which is why it helps with manic-depression. FWIW, I have taken up to 24 mg (maybe a bit more) in a day with benefits and no ill effects (that was based on ND recommendation). I did have undetectable hair lithium at that time (and is no longer undetectable). > In another post it mentions that lithium modulates brain glutamine levels which is why it helps with manic-depression. > Dean Hm - will have to look for that. --
Guest guest
I want to start taking Lithium. I am wondering if " Lithium Carbonate " is also good to take? In my hair test Lithium was 'undetectable low'. Dean, you interpreted my hair test and suggested to take 15-30mg Lithium Orotate (or Lithium Aspartate) per day with meals. The problem is that I cannot find that lithium form and dose in my country (I think because of stricter regulations). I have, however, pills of 300mg Lithium Carbonate (here right in my drawer) which I can order from oversees without a problem. Is it right that the Orotate or Aspartate are better because of better bio-availability? And that the Carbonate form is not counter- productive, only less productive? What if I split my pills of Lithium Carbonate (300mg) in 4 parts (or even more)? Whould that be ok?

Lithium carbonate in the therapeutic dose range (300 mg is in that range) can have toxic effects. At this dose it is used to treat mania and manic depressive illness, and patients taking therapeutic doses need blood tests to monitor their levels. > Is it right that the Orotate or Aspartate are better because of > better bio-availability? And that the Carbonate form is not counter- > productive, only less productive? Orotate and aspartate forms are what is usually recommended when taking lithium as a supplement. These are made in appropriately low doses. The carbonate form is serious medicine and should be used under a doctor's guidance. > What if I split my pills of Lithium Carbonate (300mg) in 4 parts (or > even more)? Whould that be ok? Guest guest
Thanx I will need to do some research about how to obtain the orotate/aspartate form of lithium. Sometimes my country looks like third world; however I think it is because of very strict regulations.
