Guest guest
My son did this for a while and then stopped and moved on to his shirt and now it's his blanket. I try to give him the chewy necklace when he's sucking on his blanket until its literally soaked but mostly I just let him do it. Eventually he will stop. It's happened before. With my son it's anxiety and just an uncomfortable feeling that makes him want to chew. Too many other issues going on for me to tackle that one right now. I know that wasnt much help but how about gum? Sent from my iPhone

Guest guest
She may need deep proprioceptive input. Does she receive Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy? Do you notice an increase in times when she does it? ie: watching tv, boredom, anxiety etc? You may have her carry heavy things around the house, wheelbarrow walking on her hands, go to the park and swing, climb, swim. Perhaps a small sensory ball that she cradles just under her chin when she needs input. Giving herself hard hugs, wall push ups etc. My daughter did the same and then came braces which gave her all the oral stimulus she required and she continues to want to wear her retainer as she calms with it. I also hae many large balls around the house for sitting and bouncing on. Talk to her therapists, ask for a sensory diet. Guest guest
Have you tried rubber toys that dogs chew? They are tough and give lots of sensory input to the mouththat ur daughter craves. Also, is there a particular time that this occurs? What is her age? Guest guest
When my son gets too much fish oil he starts to put everything in his mouth especially his hand and his shirt. He was taking 2 tsp of cod liver oil a day and he was coming home everyday with a soaking wet shirt but when I bumped him back to 1 tsp he stopped mouthing. Also, with the Zinc, are you giving her enough and is she getting it away from all other supplements like right before she goes to bed? That will make a difference. My son is 5 and he gets 40 mg of Zinc right before he goes to bed on an empty stomach and away from all other supplements. Hand mouthing My daughter constantly puts her hands in her mouth. Guest guest
Could also be increased anxietySent from my iPhone Pica is a zinc and iron deficiency. I would also include minerals for absorption. Children who are not absorbing are looking for minerals so they chew and eat whatever they can. Chlorphyll increases iron in the hemoglobin - you can get it in a liquid in the health food store Colloidal Minerals are liquid trace minerals found in the health food store that are suspended differently than regular minerals so they don't have the sodium factor which can increase hyperactivity. Make sure your child has a good probiotic and enzymes for gastrointestinal absorption.

Guest guest
We tried Chlorphyll and it made my son crazy! We have him on a great multi mineral called child essence. It has two to three times the minerals that most multi's have in them. Our son's PICA is caused by high lead levels or the high lead levels is caused by the PICA. Guest guest
Yes it could be lead and many other toxins...you would need to do a urinary porphyrn which could give you that info. Okay he doesn't do well with chlorophyll. Another form of absorbable iron is Floradix or Herbal Iron in the health food store both in a liquid. The multiminerals you are probably giving are regular minerals. The Colloidal Minerals are trace minerals in a liquid form and very absorbable. Sometimes the regular minerals are not always absorbed. Generally speaking toxicity leading to malabsorption can trigger pica. The issue is many children will put inanimate objects in their mouth under the age of two. Yes that can lead to further intoxication depending on what is going in the mouth. However, the issue is resolving the problem because if you improve the absorption, the pica will stop. I dealt with a very severe problem of this when my son was very young. Many supplements that you would expect to help with the absorption problem have problem being absorbed themselves due to the pica. Liquids are generally more absorbable. Probiotics and enzymes are very important as well....DPPIV - Vitalzyme from Klaire's or Kirkman's - I think Enzymetica has one as well. We tried Chlorphyll and it made my son crazy! Guest guest
Thanks for the info ! We are using enzymes and hard core probiotics (VSL DS 900 Billion CFU's of bacteria). I will look into the minerals you mentioned. Right now we are really struggling with yeast/bacteria and toxins. Once we get those things under control, which we have been struggling with for years now, our little guy will be fine. He is doing great academically and beginning to flourish socially, but his behaviors are getting in the way. Those behaviors are due to yeast/bacteria, and toxins. Guest guest
To further help with the yeast you might want to try CLO2 in water just a couple of drops and you can try to slightly increase if possible. This is effective for the yeast, but you have to watch to keep under the wire with the dieoff. So if you start seeing dieoff just back down. It's very effective with a good probiotic. http://www.crownwellness.com/clo2.html Thanks for the info ! We are using enzymes and hard core probiotics (VSL DS 900 Billion CFU's of bacteria). Guest guest
If we just treat for yeast then the clostridia gets out of control and vice-versa. I have tried other natural products such as uva ursi, coriander oil, grapefruit seed extract, and candex but the die off is so severe that he bites and kicks. While I find that these natural products do work they take so long to be effective so we are dealing with die off issues for months. If we treat with antibioitcs the die off is horrible but it only last a couple of weeks. The key is treat for both yeast and bacteria at the same time and then add in tons of probiotics. It never completely solves the problem because in a couple of months as the spores start hatching we are back to the same problem again. It is one viscous cycle and so far I have found no practitioner who knows how to kill this stuff for good. There are some treatment trials that have shown to be promising in Europe and Canada but none of these treatments have been tried on children so it looks as if we will be dealing with this for some time to come. We have tried starving the yeast and bacteria by going to special diets but those have not worked either. We have continued to be GFCF for 3 years now as that has helped other issues but has done nothing for the candida and clostridia. Hand Mouthing Pica is a zinc and iron deficiency. Guest guest
I understand your frustration. I have used this product with moms for almost 20 years with great success. You can stay under the wire with the dieoff with a small amount - that's the key and do this for long term and you'll see results. There is also a probiotic out there that gets the yeast in the tissue (systemic yeast) called Flora G and Can G. You can contact me for further info. These two products originated in Japan where they were used in Pediatric hospitals with much success. HBOT is the only other treatment I know that can get the yeast in the tissue, but of course it's much more expensive. Have you done the Biofilm protocol? Badillo9@... Guest guest
We do 6 hours a week of HBOT and have for 2 years. I have tried Candex which is a enzyme that breaks down the outer layer of the yeast (biofilm protocol). The die off is out of control.
