Guest guest
<<My doctor (not the V specialist) wants me to try bioidentical progesterone. My day 20 progesterone was REALLY low. I also tested Vitamin D and iodine deficient. Anyway, isn't progesterone bad for us? I told her I had heard that and she was very interested in seeing a study on it. She said prog. is the mother hormone and that if I am deficient in E or T it will help with that too. And that it should help regulate my crazy, crazy cycles. Any thoughts?Melinda>> Sure, I've got thoughts! Progesterone is a natural hormone our body produces. In fact, we produce a TON of it during pregnancy, but our normal cycles need certain levels of estradiol during the first half and certain levels of progesterone during the second half (after ovulation). It's not bad for us! What IS bad for us is synthetic (man-made) progesTINS, such as those found in the birth control pill. I used bio-identical P cream (not on the vulva) for about a year and it helped me tremendously with menstrual cramps, helped me lose weight, and made me feel better overall. However, it didn't effect my V issues at all. I am on a pill form right now and my V "flare-up's" that I used to get during the second part of my cycle seem to be gone! This is my 2nd cycle on it. I tested a bit low, too. If you tested low, I would think that you need it. She is probably reading Dr. Lee's books, like "What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You about Pre-Menopause." Those studies haven't been widely accepted in the medical community, and some women on this list have had bad experiences with P, but mine have been good. I recommend giving it a try, but those are just my 2 cents. Becky Be a better pen pal. Text or chat with friends inside Yahoo! Mail. See how. I would be wary of any "miracle" drugs and remedies. If there was one thing that was the answer to ALL of our ills, whether it was progesterone OR estrace, etc., it would be found. I think the important thing to keep in mind is BALANCE. Becky Be a better sports nut! Let your teams follow you with Yahoo Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Becky, Thanks so much for the prog. info and for giving me a positive story about it! I am so scared to try it. I was really hoping to get my cycles under control with diet and supplementation but it's not happening yet. If I start using the prog., do you think I would have to take it long term? Or that I might be able to get regular and cut back on it? The issue is that I do feel like this dr. thinks it's a miracle cure and that makes me wary. Argh... Guest guest
You can buy natural progesterone cream OTC at a health foods store or online: http://www.puritansale.com/pages/file.asp?PID=193 & CID=23 & CPID=1277 & afid=27 & safid=Yahoo & scid=6911 & cm_mmc=Yahoo-_-Product-_-Womens%20Progesterone-_-progesterone%20natural Obviously, talk to your doc about it, but a lot of perimenopausal women use it. I don't think it's applied straight to the vulva, though. Lindsey Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search.
