Guest guest
I've had Taco Bell since surgery. A crunch wrap supreme without the sour cream (I add my own fat free at home). It's about 520 calories which is quite a lot but then that's my whole meal. I get it with extra lettuce and extra tomatoes too. I've done this maybe three times. I have no great urges to do it regularly. There's a taco bell about a mile away from my house so I would walk it with the kids if we did go. Most of my fast food has been 's chili. There's a Mc's about 750' from my house. I don't go there. Nasty all the way around. Guest guest
hi sweetie. had to respond even though i haven't had my surgery yet. i think the best thing is to talk to your doctor or a bypass surgeon first to get the straight facts. i was told that tylenol comes in a liquid that's fine to take-not just the childrens, but one for adults too. also my doctors and nutritionist told me that most foods are okay, except sugar-that i might just want to keep away from that because of the dumping, which some people don't have but not to tempt it so i don't go back to old eating habbits. that's the key hear, to learn how to completly change your lifestyle of eating....as long as you chew, chew, chew, you should be fine. as for IBS i have that too and that was one of the contributing factors of me wanting the surgery. i'm not 100% sure about others but i'm getting the full on bypass and was told over and over by the surgeons themselves that the procedure acctually improves it! look it up and check it out for the RYDGB and let me know i'd be interested. as for some people who never get out of the obese range, well you have to look at the person, how they're built, how much they started with....etc. most don't do it to be super thin and go from one extreme to another, most do it to get healthier and reach a normal weight size (for them). you sound more like me in body type. i'm 5' even and am about 240-250. for my height and weight i'm obese and have been strugelling with it for the past ten years soildly and on and off for all my life. it's a battel i don't want to fight or loose anymore. all of my doctors have been very supportive and tell me they commend me for doing it now that i'm a bit younger and nipping it in the bud before it got even more out of control. if you work closely with your nutrtionist and doctors they'll make sure to take care of your well being and work on doing things just right to help to get the surgery if you truly want to make that change in your life. it is a change and comitment. you have to be prepared mentaly before you ever set foot in the operating room. that's why some people go back to old eating habbits. there's no quick fix even though some people look at these surgerys as just that. they take hard work and detication, the surgeries are tools to help us lead healthier lives. i wish you the best in your decitions and finding the info you need, but the best advice i can give is go to one of those confrences. they're there to answer questions you may have. good luck and god speed. wow! sorry so long lol. > > > Hi, > I got a packet of papers from Kaiser today, I am not sure if > I qualify though, it says BMI of 40+ and 2 major health probs or BMI of 50. > I weigh 255, and if I was 230 I wouldn't qualify. Guest guest
I can't help you w/ the first part w/ bmi & all that. I didn't have to go thru that because I didn't use insurance. I was self-pay. As for the other. I have a crunchy snack on occassion. You can't avoid sugar; but you can limit it. Use sugar substitutes. I take tylenol on occasion. I was told to take capsules. I've not had any problems. You can also get liquid tylenol. They don't recommend motrin. Ibuprofen irritates your stomach pouch. I don't see where citrus fruits would be a problem unless they irritate your pouch. I wasn't told to stay away from them. But each surgeon is different and recommends different things. As for carbonated beverages. Carbonation leaches calcium from your bones. Something wls patients don't need. It can also irritate your pouch. But, I see & hear of wls patients drinking soda all the time. I choose not to. My body needs the water instead. There are risks of complications w/ any sort of wls. You just have to weigh the risks of having it vs not having it. Talk to someone at the surgeon's office about your concerns. You need specific answers from them since that's who you are dealing with. Guest guest
I think there are a couple schools of thought on the tylenol thing. My DR said that Tylenol was the ONLY thing I could take, no ibuprofen, no celebrex, which was my mainstay for my back, no NSAID (Non steriodal anti inflammatory) of any kind, including naprosyn, and no aspirin, but tylenol was okay, and most drugs that don;t have any of the others, or are really hard on the stomach. Since we have so much less now, there is so much more to irritate. I have made some big adjustments, but honestly, I guess the group sessions and the indoctrination from the dr and his staff have worked, because I only miss it when it is right in front of my face, and that is only momentarily. It is amazing what the surgery, and the road to it do for you. It does truly help you to change your whole way of thinking. I am even able to cook for my family, even when I can't eat it yet, being only 5 weeks out.but, I am up to 30 pounds, and that is a mighty powerful incentive. All I can say is, it is both the easiest and the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Even with just 30 pounds, I can already see a difference. No BP meds, my back hurts less already, still a bit tired if I do too much.. but even that is a nice feeling, because I am DOING, instead of just watching, I Did have have the gas pains the first few days... but not too much more pain than that. It was great, just felt like I did too many sit ups for about 2 weeks. I can't say enough good about my choice. I hope this helps and I wish you all the best. Guest guest
Also, they say stay away from citrus because the membranes that sorounds the individual slice can ball up in your stomach and cause what is called bezoars, which have to be surgically removed, but, if you take just the fruit part out of those membranes, actually pull that whit stuff off until you get just to those little pouches of juice, you're fine usually, but watch the grapefruit, it interferes with the absorption on some meds.
