Guest guest
One thing that I said to Maureen, who has recently been added to my 'team of advisors' (sorry I left you out, you help me stay on the straight and narrow!!! And, I adore you!!!) had an impact on her, and thought it might be worth sharing. I told her I wanted to say to my brother, "You say you don't want me to die, then why don't you want to do anything to help me live?" If there's one thing I would personally add to the list it would be this. People need to realize that this is a huge fight and it's one that is more often one with the love, help and emotional support of friends and family. My last 2 cents worth (for now). My younger brother refuses to acknowledge that I'm ill (he has told me to my face that I'm not really sick!), and for the past 5 years has pretended I no longer exist. I guess he figures if he doesn't acknowledge it, he doesn't have to cope with it. But it hurts deeply and makes me very, very, very angry. He also refuses to acknowledge that our Mom is getting a bit less able to do for herself. She's 83 and we just moved her in with us a couple of weeks ago, so my hands are really full now! My brothers no only didn't come by for Christmas last month ... one didn't even have the decency to call. I called him & left a message on his answering machine (they never answer the phone, particularly if we're calling!). You wouldn't figure family could hurt you so much, would you? Thank heavens for true friends! We have 2 very dear friends who have stayed shoulder to shoulder with us through all this. Don't know what we would have done without them. But, as you say, sometimes there are things you have to do. When those things come along, you either shirk your responsibilities or you step up to the plate and cope with it. There are always rewards and bright spots amidst the rubbish as you walk down life's road. Hugs, Carolyn B. in SC

Yes, and I thank God every single day that I do have this group! I could go on and wax rather eloquent, but I don't feel terribly eloquent at the moment. Please know, though, that each of you is deeply appreciated!!!! Regards, Carolyn B. in SC
