Guest guest
the only way to tell if your meter is close to correct is to take your meter and use it the same time you get blood drawn. Then check the readings from both and see how close they are. Dean From: Mark Ruth Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 5:38 PM To: blind diabetics Subject: got a q here please. my batteries ran out right in the middle of a finger stick. put new batteries in and started over. now it is telling me my sugar is in the 80's and 70's. I know this can't be true. they have been running between 100 and 120 for a few weeks or longer now. I don't have any test solution that I know of. could it be the new batteries is causing this low reading? could it be true that my sugars are as the meter is telling me? I took the sample six times and all six says close to the mid 70's. I don't have the shakes and I don't feel low. did skip lunch because my sugar was higher then I liked, but I just can't believe it is as low as the meter is saying. might try some new batteries anyway and see what happens. Guest guest
Most likely, Mark, the readings were correct. New batteries (or old batteries, or batteries made in Antarctica) wouldn't be able to alter the results. Guest guest
Hello, Mark, In my thinking this is where a second meter would come in handy. Two years into this diabetes experience I count four working meters in my house, I don't have any strips for two of them, but one is about to get some. I borrow some eyes and use a |Bayer Breeze 2 meter for this purpose. It is not accessible at all but it is known to be fairly accurate and test strips are easy to find. You might check with the company which sells you your medicine. If they haven't given you a meter yet, you might be able to get an extra meter from them, one of those that talk sometimes. There is also generally a cheap way to get your blood sugar checked professionally, by a pharmacist or some neighborhood health center or walk-in clinic. These can serve as a check on your meter. Guest guest
what kind of meter do you have? I got my new prodgy meter and I was sent the one which although it talks it is not the fully talking one for the blind. Guest guest
If you didn't receive the meter you need, you need to tell them. The fully audible meters are meters these suppliers aren't used to sending out, even though they are distributors. Remember, blind diabetics who are aggressively managing their diabetes are a rare commodity. Call your supplier and inform them you have the wrong meter. And to anyone else ready to order from a supplier, make sure they understand what you are asking for.
