Guest guest
Margary, No, The salt test is still on my "to do". list. I am a kidney patient and they say "salt is a kidney killer". I have not been restricting salt as kidney patients are instructed to do. My GP had told me to increase the salt but I didn't know it was related to the pulse rate. I see the Nephrologist in a couple weeks so will discuss it with him. My kidneys are holding steady and if lack of salt is part of why I feel so bad I think thyroid problems will rule. My ferritin was 11 Jan 09. After the iron infusion it went to 277 and my latest test, 6 months ago was 161 so it is slowly coming down. Reading here I would expect the ferritin would have taken care of some of my problems. I did see a small comment that sometimes the ferritin can give false positives. I will have another test when I see the nephrologist. The infusion only seemed to effect the ferritin and none of the related tests. Thanks for your comments. I am trying to get as much insight into this whole thing for when I see my doctor next week. I had the labs that brought this to light 3 months ago with my GP. At that point it was a surprise to me and I knew almost nothing. I don't think the GP knows much either ie 5 mcg of Cytomel. I plan to discuss that with him and want to have the best dose suggestion I can. He listens to me and goes along with me. The other thing I have to decide is staying with him for this or going back to the Endo. I am diabetic and did not like the way the Endo handled things so I don't see him anymore. I don't want to go to an Endo because he could very well not know either but want me to do it his way. The "how to" is on Nick's web page: http://thyroid-rt3.com/electrol.htm Since your sodium is low, are you supplementing salt? The usual starting recommendation is to take 1/2 teaspoon in a glass of water AM and PM, using a salt like Celtic Sea Salt. http://www.celticseasalt.com/ It is very unusual for anemia to be accompanied by a ferritin of 161. Have you had a full iron panel done? Posting the results of that may shed some light on the iron and ferritin situation. > > I have been anemic for many years. Taking iron and eating iron rich food has never helped. Jan 09 my ferritin was 11 (13-150). I had an iron infusion. I don't think it was the venofer mentioned here. April 09 the ferritin was 277 and Nov last year was 161. Sodium is low. > My pulse is fast, around 100 and my temp is low. I don't see how those things fit together. > > Comments appreciated. > Betty >
