Guest guest
Sometimes the band does squish one eye at first. However your orthos explanation that it will " drop " when the head improves sounds unusual to me. Can you post some pics of her head so we can see? Also is she getting red spots from improper fit? Is the ortho experienced? What kind of band did you get & from where? Unfortunately there are some bad orthos out there. Hopefully yours is just inarticulate, and the band is okay, but pics might help get opinions from other parents who have been through this. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Hi - My 10 month old just got her band this morning and it really doesn't seem to fit at all. > It's completely crooked on her head and it makes one eye droop. Guest guest
The band looking crooked until the head corrects seems normal to me. We got a similiar response when our son was banded (10+ months ago) and the band did fit our son correctly. As for the band making her eye droop, I'm not sure about that. Hopefully others that are going through the process now can provide some insight. > > Hi - My 10 month old just got her band this morning and it really doesn't seem to fit at all. > It's completely crooked on her head and it makes one eye droop. Guest guest
My son's helmet looked a little crooked initially too because of his assymetry; as the asymmetry improved so did the "crookedness" of the band. It also kind of pushed the skin of his forehead down towards his eyes and made him look mad all the time; it tended to be worse on the right side where his forehead bossed. I'm not sure if that's what you mean by drooping. If you're worried about it though, definitely have them take a look and make sure the fit is right! , mom to 8 months Brachy, Hanger grad 1/08lka_236 <lka_236@...> wrote: The band looking crooked until the head corrects seems normal to me. Guest guest
I may not be as qualified to give advice as the other parents who have had thier children banded longer, but I feel I can address the concerns you mentioned. My daughter has been in her band from CT for exactly two weeks today. When she first got her band it looked like either her one eye was being pushed shut a little or it made a wrinke in the bridge of her nose. Our ortho person said this happens frequently and its just extra skin being pushed by the band--some babies have more extra skin than others in the face. My daughter has very chubby cheeks. She even coined the terms " pirate eye " and " football nose " to describe these occurances. Also I've been noticing her band going off center even though we're sure when we place it on her head to line up her midlines--again I was told this is normal because the band can slide a bit with a child's asymmetry. Does your child have plagio or bradycephaly? My daughter has plagio. Our ortho person also told us to anticipate that as our daughter's head corrects we will see the band seem to loosen because since her head would then be more round it wouldn't have pressure from the asymmetrical spots--maybe this is what was meant by seeing the band " drop " . I would just be sure to keep doing the skin checks, wipe her head frequently if it sweats alot in the beginning (my daughters did for the first 2 days) and it was recommended to us to have her sleep in a onesie, we found her temp to be just right in a long sleeved onesie ( I think finding the right temp at night is the trick to well again through the night). Best of luck. > > > > Hi - My 10 month old just got her band this morning and it really > doesn't seem to fit at all. > > It's completely crooked on her head and it makes one eye droop. > Has anyone else had this > > problem? Guest guest
If by " droop " you mean that the band " pinches " her eye, or rather the skin on her forehead pushes down on the eye making it close some, then my daughter had the same thing. When I went in for our adjustment appointment this week, the ortho showed me how to put the band on correctly so it wouldn't do that. I was actually positioning the band too high up on her head as well as pulling it too tight. When I seated the band where it STARTED just above her eyebrows and didn't make it so tight, the eye " pinch " went away. I don't know if that's what you're talking about or not, but if it is, hopefully you can try this too and maybe it will help. Good Luck! > > Hi - My 10 month old just got her band this morning and it really doesn't seem to fit at all. > It's completely crooked on her head and it makes one eye droop. Guest guest
Thank you all for your responses. I went to CT yesterday and got the helmet adjusted a bit to take care of the red spot that looked a little suspect. As for the fit, the ortho said the helmet isn't supposed to " fit " exactly. The room in the helmet is for growth and due to her head shape (brachy) it was crooked. I guess we'll see what happens at our next adjustment.
