Guest guest
Hi Becky, Yes it is perfectly safe to stop taking the T4. You don't need it at all! I don't have a thyroid and am on T3 only, 100mcg a day. Synthetic hormones will suppress your TSH and thats about it. They aren't good in the best of circumstances and you certainly can't get rid of RT3 on them! Kitty To: RT3_T3 Sent: Thu, May 13, 2010 9:18:50 PMSubject: Trying to rid myself of RT3 without a Doc's Help Hi,I am currently trying to take care of my RT3 build up without the help of a Dr. The reason is my health care provider only prescribes T4. I am currently on 25 mcg Levothroid. My THS is 2.4, so within normal range. When Levothroid was prescribed it was 5.04, so I have always been considered only subclinical.I was going to an alternative doctor for awhile and she diagnosed me as needing T3 and put me on a protocol of 9 mcg Liothronine twice a day. The problem is every time I went to see her, she wanted me to do more tests and I could usually never leave her office without it costing me $300. I couldn't afford that as well as paying $500 for my husband and my health insurance through Kaiser.Anyway, I don't think I ever got my dosage up to what was needed to make the difference. I ran out of the prescription and now would like to do this on my own. I am very aware of my body and know that my problem is RT3. I am feeling very hypo again and can't lose weight no matter what I do. I can just feel my body holding onto everything. I am also really tired and have no energy. Everything is overwhelming to me and I'm depressed.I ordered Cytomel from a pharmacy in the UK. I rushed delivery, so I'm hoping it gets here soon. I went to the thyroid-rt3 website and read everything. It says I should quit taking my Levothroid immediately before starting the cytomel. I guess I'm just afraid as when I asked the alternative Doc about stopping taking it, she said I needed to do both. I know that Armour is also 60% t4 and 40% t3, so I want to make sure if I completly stop the levothroid, that it won't cause a problem. I did feel better at first after taking it, but it wasn't too long before I realized I still wasn't quite right. Any advice would be appreciated. I just don't want to make things worse. I'm optimistic about getting back on the cytomel, I just want to make sure I should stop the Levothroid as well.Thank you!Becky

Guest guest
Becky have you had an rt3 and ft3 test done at the same time? Did the results show you have a ratio that's <20, I ask this because it might be a good idea to have your reverse t3, free t3 and free t4 tested before changing your meds. I've been taking Naturethroid (t3/t4) meds for about 2 years now and without the reverse t3 test I would have never known I had an rt3 issue. Your TSH is high IMO, no wonder you feel hypo...is that the only test your doc did for you? Did he test your antibodies, ferritin, vitamin b12 or d? Have you had a saliva test for cortisol levels? Obviously I don't know your background but I'd be kind of careful just jumping into taking t3 or any thyroid med without first making sure your adrenals are supported, ferritin is at a good level (that can really mess you up if it's too low) as well as antibodies and vitamin levels. Please excuse me if you've already done this and have posted your lab results, my computer has been messed up for a week so I'm hitting and missing a lot of emails. I hope you get to feeling better real soon.<<From: "bbottel (AT) sbcglobal (DOT) net" <bbottel (AT) sbcglobal (DOT) net> To: RT3_T3 Sent: Thu, May 13, 2010 9:18:50 PM Subject: Trying to rid myself of RT3 without a Doc's Help Hi, I am currently trying to take care of my RT3 build up without the help of a Dr. The reason is my health care provider only prescribes T4. Guest guest
> >Does Dessicated thyroid suppress TSH more than T3 only? My doctor seems to think so. Don't know, it may be that the receptors that set the rate of TSH delivery respond to both T4 and T3 and hence Natural MAY have 2 ways of suppressing it. I'm speculating here Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
Guest guest
Not sure if it suppresses it more but I know TSH is pointless when taking dessicated. But then TSH is generally pointless....
