Guest guest
Welcome. I really think you should start with the saliva test from CanaryClub. It is only $141 and you get thyroid and sex hormones in there too. You want to know where you are before supplementing with cortisol. Your symptoms do sound like adrenal and can exasperate PTSD which is common with abusive situations. www.canaryclub.org Select " Diagnos Tech " saliva tests. Once you get the test results (they mail to you) you can post the results and we can help you with suggestions for self treatment. Sorry to hear about your bad situation but glad you got out. I was in an abusive work situation for many years and I know that was the final nail in my coffin as far as my health. If you need belongings to start over, try www.freecycle.org in your area. Make sure to read the rules but I have given away lots of stuff to people who are in similar situations as yours, and have also gotten things that I needed. It is a really great group. There are other similar ones too if you Google. Also check out your abused shelters in your area. Many will provide basic things like soaps, cleaning supplies, food, etc. or can direct you where you can get them. They are federally and state funded, at least partially, so don't be afraid to utilize them since you likely paid into them with your tax dollars in the past. Cheri New here, where do i start? I am certain i have adrenal fatigue and wonder where should i start. I had my T4 and TSH levels tested and they both were in the normal range. I left an abusive partner and fled with 5 children and no belongings and have been through a lot. Now i am experiencing debilitating anxiety attacks (happen randomly) fatigue, night waking, sugar cravings, can not lose weight, loss of concentration, poor memory, brain fog. I don't have the money to seek naturopathic help but i am considering the saliva test. So where should i start? .

Guest guest
If you go to the goup webpage you can look through the file sections there. I am pretty sure there is information there on how to " self " test and also there should be a link to some websites that have a list of adrenal failure symptoms. Also in the files you should find links to Diagnostics and ZRT labs where you can order saliva test. You really do need to have the Saliva testing done. Sometimes people think they have low cortisol when in fact they are high and vice versa. You need to be sure where you are before you start. Also try taking you temps 3 times a day. First test is 3 hours after you get up in the am, 2 nd test 3 hours later and the 3 test 3 hours after that. Try to be consistant with the timing. You will need to keep track of you temps and then average your temp for 3 days in a row. They should not vary over .2. I think that is right. Again go to the home page for the group and search through all the files. Lots of good info there. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ K New here, where do i start? Guest guest
Wow, I know there are others here who will be better able to help you with the adrenal issues and your next steps with that (get saliva tests from Canary club) But I would like to say, be so proud of yourself! What a tremendously brave and difficult thing you have done! I wish you every success and will keep you in my thoughts. Best wishes for the brighter future you have already embarked upon, English > > I left an abusive partner and fled with 5 children and no belongings > and have been through a lot. Guest guest
Start with a saliva test for sure, a T3 test at least. RT3 (reverse T3) and antibody tests would be useful too. We need to know the numbers for TSH and T4, and you should have at least T3 and RT3 tested as well, and antibody tests for autoimmune hypothyroidism (TPO antibody and anti-thyroid antibody). Even if all the thyroid hormones are normal, without cortisol, cells can't use them. The ranges are crap Normal TSH is somewhere between 1 and 2. Mine was at 5.9 and my endo said it was " borderline " . A saliva test really needs to be done to determine the degree of adrenal insufficiency, and how much cortisol support is needed. This should be done before you start any cortisol support AT ALL. I started support with IsoCort, without a saliva test, and now I'm " paying for it " - in the form of a wean my body doesn't really like. It seems like AF feels a LOT worse if you've been on some support before than if you haven't. With your stress reactions I'd expect the low-cortisol/adrenaline reactions to a cortisol wean to be worse. DON'T see an endo if you can avoid it - they are expensive and arrogant unless you find a good one (rare and hard to find). You'll probably get better treatment with any other kind of doctor. But very few doctors know how to deal with adrenal problems. If you are autoimmune, selenium supplementation can help reduce autoantibodies, and might help with other things as well. I'm not sure if how naturopaths approach thyroid/adrenal issues. Val? All your symptoms could be related to thyroid and/or adrenal. The anxiety is probably some degree of PTSD, but AF can probably make that worse. I'm have no real experience with severe anxiety or PTSD, but I know that beta-blockers are in trials for " cutting off " at least some kinds of PTSD (by breaking the and over-strong adrenaline link to memory formation in the brain, they think). I'm not sure how beta-blockers interact with thyroid/adrenal problems - I think there are some issues here. Keep in mind that this treatment is experimental, and I'm not sure how you could find someone who would know how use it for such " off-label " use. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. There is a lady here in town who tests through diagnostics so i will contact her this week. My TSH was 1.769 and T4 was 1.01 i asked for a complete THyroid with T3 included but apparently they didn't do that. The last time, a few years ago, that i did have the T3 tested it was below normal. I was given a beta blocker by a Dr but have not taken it. It is a new attempt to treat PTSD.I did just start taking Mag calm and it has been helping my irritability and anger issues. I will update when i get my saliva test! > > I am certain i have adrenal fatigue and wonder where should i start.
