My neurologist also told me it was a nerve stabilizer- I think it works on your central nervous system and just calms everything down- I decided that I am going off the elavil ( I was only on 10mg) so I doubt I was even getting that much relief, but I am just going to take ativan as needed (not more that one half .5 ) every 3 days for pain.
