Guest guest
Risperdal and Ambien are used for different things...best advice is to consult a doctor very well versed with autism and medication/behavioral management. I love Dr. Udall in Weston. It was recommended to me that we consider respridal (sp?) but on researching I have seen that many parents have said Ambien (same class of medicine) has been used very successfully and had less side effects. My sons doctor has seen the same thing in others with Autism and is checking into the updated information on this use for us. Have any of you on the list had experience with this medicine to lower or stop the aggressive outburst and anger management issues? Good, bad or indifferent? Looking for input. Thanks.------------------------------------
Guest guest
Please Do NOT give anyone Ambien!!! Contrary to belief it causes more damage than any other drug. I know of at least two people who were NOT bipolar who were prescribed Ambien and BECAME bipolar andtotally addicted to taking it. Please consult with a psychiatrist who knows what to prescribe...Sandy To: sList Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2012 3:24 PM Subject: Re: Has anyone had experience with Ambien being used for aggressive behavior? Guest guest
Original poster might have meant Abilify (atypical antipsychotic), rather than Ambien(sleeping pill). > > Please Do NOT give anyone Ambien!!! Guest guest
You definitely mean Abilify, not Ambien Meanwhile, I read on another list that some people have used Melatonin successfully to reduce anxiety. Then I did a Google search, and it is being used for that. Some parents have given a small dosage of Melatonin during the day and have experienced a reduction in anxiety. I wouldn't try it without asking your doctor, but I just wanted to report that I read that. Guest guest
My son was in a clinical trial for Risperdal (Risperidone) - the test was to see if it effectively managed aggressive behavior in autistic kids - my son wasn't aggressive but he stims a lot and that's what we were tracking. - you may want to add that to your list to investigate i LOVE melatonin - check out Dr. Udell's research on it too - i use it to get my son (12) to go to sleep at night - i get the capsules and sprinkle it on his food - it's a lifesaver, all natural and no chance of overdose - i've never tried it during the day. good luck > > > > Good Afternoon all, > > > > I have a 13 YO son who with age, hormones and all the other aspects of getting older has some outburst that have become only controllable by physical restraint or very direct confrontation (blocking his way, forcing him to sit). Guest guest
I use Melatonin at night as well with my son (7y). Dr Udell recommended as my son was having light sleep and always a little hyper before bedtime. It works great !! I never used during the day either. Guest guest
My son took both risperdal (risperidone) and Abilify for many years. (Not at the same time!) Risperdal was by far better for his behaviors. However, although not a side effect for everyone, Risperdal made him hungry all the time and he gained so much weight that his father and I had to make the decision to get him off Risperdal and give him Abilify. It worked well, but not as good.Remember: not every child reacts the same to medications!Wish you well,Yesmin (Virgilio's mom)Sent from my iPad Good Afternoon all, I have a 13 YO son who with age, hormones and all the other aspects of getting older has some outburst that have become only controllable by physical restraint or very direct confrontation (blocking his way, forcing him to sit).
