Agenda for the ACE (Autism Committee of ESE Advisory Council) meeting this

Wednesday

August 22nd, 2012 Location: Baudhuin Preschool Time: 9:00-11:00 AM

Welcome and introduction of the meeting.

Mission Statement and purpose.

ACE is a parent driven group that meets regularly with school administrators to

support autism programming in Broward County Public Schools. By working

collaboratively at the school and district level, we pledge to promote

reasonable student-teacher ratios and proven teaching techniques so that each

child on the autistic spectrum may demonstrate continual progress in an effort

to reach his or her potential. ACE is a sub-committee of Exceptional Student

Education Advisory Council of Broward County that operates under School Board

Policy 1.22.

* Systemic availability of program supports (ensuring all clusters have the

same level of supplies, adult support ratios, etc)

* All staff are trained in ASD, especially behaviors related to the

disability

* Counselors working with kids with autism have training and experience for

kids with ASD.

* OTs trained in sensory integration techniques

* Middle school classrooms with age appropriate supplies and teaching

materials

* Middle school SVE teachers trained in autism

* High school SVE teachers trained in autism

* Speech pathologists trained in social skill integration (curriculum such as

Visualization and Verbalization and Social Thinking)

* Principals trained in needs of students with autism
