Before trying thyroid, I think it's reasonable to consider tyrosine, selenium, and iodine. All of these are involved in making thyroid hormones, so if your body has the ability to make more thyroid, providing these can help. Selenium is a good antioxidant and can be helpful with mercury toxicity in any case. Tyrosine can also help. Amalgam Illness has more information on both of these. Some people can benefit from iodine, but others can be sensitive. I would try it in a small amount first. I use kelp as a source of iodine. I'm sure there are other herbs and treatments for thyroid. Also dietary advice, like avoiding soy, corn and some other foods.
