Guest guest
Hey Rita, The pain is gone on the flexeril so I'm guessing the theory my doctor had was right....the pain was caused by something, we don't know what, and the dull ache was just my muscles staying tense trying to guard me from the pain that wasn't there anymore. I seriously think it was severe flank pain as I'm still swollen to the point of my legs pitting.....but my neph feels I can wait until the 3rd for more labs. I'm o.k. with that since I honestly don't think there is much more they are going to do for me at this point that will do anything more than make me feel lousy from the meds. I'm dealing with it though and even was outside working in my garden yet again yesterday....then had to come in and take a nap. ;-) My body still reminds me that " yes I have a chronic disease " . I'm off in a few minutes to have Craig drive me up to Curves so I can work out....I was voted " Most Inspirational " at my Curves this month...it was nice of them to do that since I haven't been in for nearly 3 weeks. :-) They've all been worried about me too. Just a few more days before I get my labs done...I might even sneak in on the 1st so they get them in their office by the 3rd, my appointment is on the 10th. Amy G. Guest guest
What a relief that pain is gone! Since the battle is won on the pain front, hopefully you'll start getting some relief with the swelling as well. This has been a long struggle. Thanks for filling me in on flexeril in your earlier post. Congrats on the " most inspirational " vote. A little recognition is always nice. Just don't overdo it in the garden... Guest guest
Hi Amy, It may very well have been flank pain. Don't know if your remember but last year I went through something similar. My pain was severe enough that I could barely walk. My PCP sent me for a kidney ultrasound, and a chest x-ray. Nothing was found and the pain gradually went away. I've chalked it up to severe flank pain, because everything else was ruled out. I don't recall any swelling at the time, but even now off and on I have swelling, especially my hands, eyes and ankles. Congrats on being voted " Most Inspirational " - I must say it doesn't surprise me one bit ;-) YOU-GO-GIRL Hugs, Rita

Guest guest
Hi Amy, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. It really does put things into proper perspective and makes me count my blessings even more. When I had my first biopsy, the doctor told me the good news is that I did not have kidney cancer. That shocked me because I had not even realized that was a possibility they were considering. Since that day, I have counted my blessings that I have IgAN. I hope you can find comfort in your memories of your friend even as you grieve her loss. Only one more day to wait. I know how hard the waiting is Amy. I hope this day passes quickly for you and that you get good news tomorrow. We will anxiously await your post after your appointment. In a message dated 6/9/2005 8:49:23 A.M. She passed away at home 4 weeks ago and was in a lot of pain for the last few months. My husband and I count our bl essings that we are only dealing with IgA. She was an incredibly lady and her husband is lost without her. They ran their own publishing business and she was the editor...he has yet to reopen....she was only 35yrs old. She said she knew there was a reason she didn't have kids and found a bit of peace in the fact that she wasn't leaving her husband with young children to care for. :-( It was quite sad all around. So yes we know first hand things could be much worse and I think in supporting his friend during his wife's illness and death made my husband realize that dialysis isn't the end of the world. Amy G. Guest guest
Amy, I have to say this again although I have said this before; your husband is really an amazing husband to be so supportive and encouraging. I say he is a " keeper " :-) In a message dated 6/8/2005 7:21:01 P.M. (I barely get 30 minutes now) 3) think of all the reading I'll catch up on 4)with my cross stitch frame I should be able to learn to stitch one handed easy enough so think of all the cross stitch I can finish 5) I'll be on the tx list and hopefully one of my live donors will pan out 6) no more worrying about reaching end stage.... and on and on... my guy can put a good spin on just about anything. :-) Amy G. Re: Amy Oh Amy, the waiting is the worst part - don't ya think? My turn to be antsy is coming up soon too! My house will be getting a thorough cleaning too! I always try to put things in perspective - things could always be worse. It's my way of reaching acceptance. I'm sending positive thoughts your way and praying for stability on your end. PS Thank goodness for supportive spouses! You've got an absolute gem there. Love ya, Rita
Guest guest
My sympathies for your friend, Amy. I similarly thought having IgAN wasn't so bad after my biopsy in 1993, about a year after a friend of mine died of kidney cancer. Guest guest
Amy Call them...your friends that is. Tell them you'd like them to come over and talk or have dessert or watch a movie. I know it would be better if they'd take the initiative but they may really feel helpless. The biggest thing my friends do for me is sit beside me and laugh or giggle. I remember last saturday night was great although not something I can do every night. But we just ate pizza and watched movies. I also remember saying something that could be taken two ways (I meant it perfectly innocent) and the minute I said it the 25 year old sitting beside me lost it and went into a round of giggles and I thought she was going to end up rolling on the floor. Everyone else was laughing as much at her as at what was said. I can assure you too she wasn't embarrassed-just the way it all happened so funny. But it was the company that was so nice. They all have busy lives though and I do have to keep talking to them and talking about lets do something together. It's not like me to do that but it's worth it. So, your friends have asked what they can do. Tell them. As to thinking....oh in so many ways its overrated. But, I did learn from reading and even going to one event at a local senior center as they've set up regular classes doing puzzles. I felt bad when the 83 year old beside me just breezed through while I was still figuring things out. Sudoki is one. Word Scrabble. There are riddles to solve. There are many. They have been proven to help certain skills. They are brain exercises. On the other hand, I can't do what I did when I was at my peak and used my skills every day but, so what, if it takes me a bit longer to solve something today. So, I fully understand all you're saying. I'd suggest one thing. Think of one pleasant activity you would like to do and can do and who you'd like to do it with. Call them. Yes, I wish they'd initiate it, but that doesn't mean they don't want to do it. Sometimes its simple. When my ex-wife and I go out to eat she often stops in and sits beside me on the sofa and we go to http://icanhascheezburger.com/ and look at the pictures of the cats and laugh together. Oh, its not like a trip to Vegas, but its very nice. Simple and nice. >> Is anyone on just 10 mg of prednisone? I have been on 10 for a long time. I would love to get off , they keep telling me my breathing would get worse. Also sometimes I feel like I have lost half of my brain cells. I can't remember, forgetful cannot remember how to do things. Programs on the computer I could do without thinking now I cannot remember can't concentrate. I am told it is because I don't excercise my brain, I use to read a lot now I cannot finish a book no a chapter. I hardlyl ever get to leave the house. I getted winded just walking to the door. Oh yeah once you are this bad your friends disapear, they all say "if there is anything we can do anything just call" I probably sound like a big complaining cry baby. I am really not like that it is just I know how long and late stage I am and what I use to do and what I do now. I know everyone is probably feeling this way too so help me about the concentrating. > Amy>
