Having family members and other supportive adults involved in the career preparation and job search strengthens the motivation of individuals with complex disabilities to work. It is critical to encourage the involvement and realize the impact of family members on the positive customized employment outcomes for jobseekers with complex disabilities. The purpose of this webinar is to provide: Information about how to encourage the involvement of family members and other supportive adults in the customized employment process. Strategies about how family members can streamline the evaluation and planning processes. Specific examples from the real lives of individuals with complex disabilities and their families. ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Nila Benito Nila Benito is coordinator of community supports and co-director of Collaborative On Discovery & Innovation in Employment for the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities. Nila’s primary focus is to help her adult sons with autism, ’s & ph, be the best they can be. Through her work at USF, she promotes positive outcomes for and a greater understanding of people with developmental disabilities and their families. Before working at USF, she was a reporter for the Tampa Tribune and director of public relations at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. In 2004, Nila was appointed as chairperson of the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on Employment, Community Living, and School to Work Transition. In 2002, she was elected to two-year term as chairperson of the Florida Developmental Disabilities Planning Council and served a four-year term as a member of the Department of Education’s Statewide Advisory Committee. Nila’s professional journal publications and primary interests are in public policy, family/professional collaboration, inclusion, customized employment, transition, sexual health, and positive behavior supports.
