Guest guest
How much do you weigh? Andy recommends starting with 1/8-1/4mg/lb. Did you take them every 3 hours as recommended? >>> " alexseeold " landguy@...> 8/10/2007 9:19 AM >>> I recently took four 50mg ALA caps spread throughout the day and in 24 hours lost about 40% of my strength. It's coming back ok but my naturopath suggested that the ALA was moving some of my body burden of mercury into my nervous system, not removing it from my brain. Doesn't this run counter to Andy's theories? Any thoughts?

Doesn't > this run counter to Andy's theories? Any thoughts? > The way that you took ALA wasn't Andy's protocol. He says to take doses of ALA every 3 h, including at night, for at least 3 days and 2 nights on and as many days off as days on. That would mean that over a day (24 h) you would take 8 doses, then another 8 doses the next day, and more doses the next day until stopping in the evening. Starting at 50 mg per dose is too high for most. Your reaction shows that the dose is too high for you. See TKs general recommendations in the files section here. Your naturopath is familiar with what happens when ALA is used in other schedules besides Andy's protocol. With other protocols (such as once a day ALA or 3x per day ALA) there is redistribution with every dose. With Andy's protocol by dosing at the half life the blood levels of DHLA (what ALA converts to in the body) remain fairly constant and there is a net movement of metals out of the body and brain for the period of chelation. It is only at the end of the round that some redistribution occurs and this is minimized by using a dose that is appropriate for the individual. We suggest a starting dose of 12.5 mg or even less. Guest guest
I weigh about 115 lbs. and have had an ALS diagnosis for almost 6 years. I think I need a 12.5 dose every 3 hours to start with, along with the DMSA. Is it normal to have that severe a reaction? I took them every 8 hours, even though I know better. It would be best to do many rounds of DMSA alone before adding ALA. With an ALS diagnosis you may want to go even lower that 12.5 mg. >Is it normal to have that severe a reaction? It is the more toxic, more frail person who will notice the reaction to the metals that ALA moves right away. Considering how far your mercury problems have developed it is lucky that the reaction wasn't much worse. J > Mark > > > > How much do you weigh?
