A urinary Porphyrn test is the most accurate test for heavy metals because blood and hair do not always show mercury toxicity. Only LabCorp or Great Plains Labs do this testing in the US otherwise in France in pe Augusta Lab. You need to go to a doctor that can understand the results. A DAN physician should be able to do that.

Hi there,Forgive me if these questions have been asked over and over again, but I'm new to this. My 5 y/o son was recently diagnosed with SPD and had "food sensitivities" up until last year. Although that's mostly resolved he's generally bloated. Okay, so I'm reading about why this is happening and coming to 2 things - yeast overgrowth/GI imbalance and mercury toxicity. This makes absolute sense to me. So, where can I get he and I tested for heavy metals? Is a hair test the way to go? Or is blood and/or urine test more accurate? Is there a pediatric nutritionist that specializes in ASD or SPD in the North Broward area that people love? I'm a bit overwhelmed and could use some guidance. Any other suggestions of treatment or therapists would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,Evyan

In the Broward area you can see Dr. Udell. He should be able to prescribe the right tests and read the results.

Hello there,

I too am new to all of this and am very greatful to be part of this group! I wish there was more information regaurding the Palm Beach area, not just Broward, but I have found it all very informative, none the less.

I have been hearing a lot about mercury poisoning again and I was wondering what is a DAN physician? Also, I am assuming that most insurance companies will not pay for this test, so do you know how much this test usually costs if I use Lab Corp?

Thank you!!

For those who want to get a good idea of their child's heavy metal toxicity, I'd

recommend a Doctor's Data Hair Elements Test. Contrary to popular belief, you do

not need to see a DAN to get this test. You can order it online at

www.directlabs.com, under the category of autism. Be sure it's the Hair Elements

test, and not the 'Hair Toxic Elements Exposure'.

Once you have your results, go to www.recoveringkids.com for help in

interpreting the results. Please note that I have no financial ties to this

website at all, but do know the creators of this site....they know their stuff

and offer a wealth of information! And it's free!

Once you're able to understand the results, you can then decide if you need to

get a DAN involved.

All the best,

Hi ,

are these do it yourself tests?

To: sList Sent: Wednesday, September 5, 2012 7:37 PMSubject: Re: Re: mercury toxicity and SPD

The hair analysis test is not as accurate as the urine test. I have done them both. There is tons of build up on our hair from our shampoos and soaps, these can taint the results. You do not need a DAN Dr. to get the urine tests either but they are extremely knowledgeable about reading the results and that is super important.

You want to do the urinary porphyrn test for heavy metals. Lab Corp and Great Plains are the only two labs in the US that does this test. Otherwise you have to ship to France. The Porphyrn is the most accurate. You need a black cup from the lab so there's minimal light exposure.
