I remember posting something about tests of some brands show the dose in the caps isn't always the same as the dose on the labels. I have been using Kirkman's 25 mg caps and splitting them to 12.5 mg. I haven't had any side effects. I would think that if the dose was variable from cap to cap I would feel it? I was using Thorne but ran out and got some NOW brand. I did notice a difference. I don't know of any studies, this is just my personal experience. Guest guest
I used to work in a Natural foods/supplements store. They sold NOW brand, but didn't have a high regard for it. They never really told me why they didn't like the brand, so I can't give you specifics. Sorry. --------------------------------- Building a website is a piece of cake. Yahoo! Guest guest
I toured the NOW facility about a month ago, and I was actually impressed with their quality assurance and cleanliness of the plant. I was also surprised to hear that they are doing research to set standards in which other labs do testing for certain products. They have actually developed the testing protocol to check for supplement potency, etc., for some supplements in which there weren't any current standards. These are published in peer reviewed journals. Unlike some plants, they also have a microbiology lab and use it. They test their raw materials for microbes, whereas many labs just use the product. I can't remember what raw material they are frequently rejecting because of molds, where some other places wouldn't know the difference. They don't pay for advertising, so they keep costs down that way. I think the low cost puts a lot of people off... -Olif
Guest guest
I have been using NOW for some time, since reading in one of the Dr Hilda books, when they state which are mold free and so safe to take. I am very happy with them - I was surprised as they are so cheap in comparison with what I was taking. The B100 has really lifted my blood B12 reading in a way that my previous one did not (Lamberts). I wil stick with them. Val
Guest guest
I have been using NOW supplements for years with great benefit. I shop at iherb.com, and am regularly astonished by the savings I get on NOW, Natural Factors and Drs. Best, Carlson and Jarrow product lines. I'm in my second year of chelation, and having finally gotten control of my Candida, I'm now chelating with ALA at 100 mg on Andy's schedule. You can pay for Kirkman's if you like (it is a fine product), but I am doing well with Natural Factors 100 mg ALA which I payed $10.54 for 120 caps with my 12% discount (frequent purchasers get " VIP " discounts beyond the discounts available to all indexed to purchase amount: new buyers would get a 7% discount on the same order). Or try Healthy Origins CoQ10, 300 mg 60 softgels for $28.15. Who can beat that? When I don't shop through iherb, I usually go to my co-op which has very good prices on NOW products. My point? Supplements are expensive. I'm glad that Olif toured the NOW plant and was impressed. I'm persuaded by their literature and my own personal usage. Shop around. Guest guest
Olif, Thanks for posting this input. It's very helpful to have a direct report, so to speak. I have sometimes wondered why their prices were so low... the old " you get what you pay for " adage at work, no doubt. But eliminating advertising would cut costs considerably. > I toured the NOW facility about a month ago, and I was actually > impressed with their quality assurance and cleanliness of the plant. > > I was also surprised to hear that they are doing research to set > standards in which other labs do testing for certain products.
