Guest guest
I'm not sure about the boneloss, but I would definitely check into it... last I checked though, age was a better candidate for boneloss than Armour. Maybe it's because some people on Armour avoid calcium due to the binding problem *shrug*. So if you want to take Armour or any other thyroid med, just be sure to have a good cal/mag supplement LOL It's a long one.....> > > Hi,> > I am coming to the thyroid boards to figure out what is going on > with me. Guest guest
My doctor can't actually link it in me but knows that my thyroid problems are directly related to my allergies. When I have a really bad allergic reaction or even a series of minor ones, my thyroid levels go haywire and I'm taking it easy for a week or so recovering lol. If I remember right... *scratches head* the adrenal glands help with the histamine reaction and help to diffuse it. Here is some info for you.. I jacked it from the Allergy & Asthma Disease Management Center . http://www.aaaai.org/aadmc/ate/antihistamine.html Histamine- is a chemical released in the body mainly from two types of cells,-mast cells and basophils. Histamine acts by binding to receptors on certain other cells in the body. Three types of receptors for histamine have been identified: 1) The H1 receptor- when histamine binds to this receptor it causes much of the symptoms of allergic reactions such as sneezing, itching, running nose, etc. The H1- antihistamines used so extensively (e.g.- Benadryl, Claritin, etc.) interfere somehow with the binding of histamine to this receptor. 2) The H2 receptor- when histamine binds to such receptor on cells in the stomach, it stimulates acid secretion in the stomach. H2 -antihistamines such as Tagamet and Zantac, interfere with this histamine binding and are therefore used in the treatment of peptic ulcers and certain other stomach disorders. 3) The H3 receptor- is in the brain and maybe other parts of the nervous system. When histamine binds to this receptor it may act as a "neurotransmitter" transmitting certain nerve impulses. There is not yet any approved H3- antihistamine. Epinephrine- is a chemical secreted by the adrenal gland. It is not an antihistamine. However, it can combat severe allergic reactions by constricting small blood vessels preventing fluid leaking out from the blood compartment. It also relaxes the bronchial (breathing) tubes in the lungs, thereby relieving some of the symptoms of asthma. Because epinephrine also can stimulate the heart to beat more rapidly, individuals treated with this agent often have palpitations transiently. Norepinephrine- is a chemical also secreted by the adrenal medulla (and certain other tissues.) It is not a histamine or antihistamine. A major, potent effect of norepinephrine is to constrict blood vessels, raising the blood pressure. Norepinephrine is released as part of the body's response to a marked drop in blood pressure such as occurs in a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis.) Norepinephrine is sometimes given to patients as treatment to raise the blood pressure. Now, I noticed when I first started taking the adrenal support (because it was made from cow and had all adrenal gland hormones) my allergies went away a bit to the point where I didn't need my allergy meds... now, for me... that was a BIG deal. I also noticed during taking my allergy meds that my adrenal glands don't feel as stressed and just feel like they are sitting there contently. If that makes sense lol. I also notice the adrenal/thyroid connection this way... I have a goiter on the right side of my neck. About a year ago, my docs (ENT & Family) said because it was inflamed to the point where I was having trouble swallowing and breathing, that I would need a partial (at least) thyroidectomy. I had my own theories that my body could regulate itself if I just figured out how... so at the same time, my doc (family) started me on fexofenadine (Allegra) and I started taking Claritin & an inhaler for asthma. Within a week I noticed I could swallow my vitamins again without choking and breathe laying down... when I had my ultrasound results, my docs were interested to see that my gland wasn't as inflamed and was still the same size it was the year before. So as of now, I have NOT had a thyroidectomy and as long as Allegra is made, I won't need one LOL. I was wondering earlier this week why my neck was starting to hurt again and I realized I hadn't taken my Allegra for a few days! And sure enough, when I remembered it again, I can breathe, swallow, and most of my hoarseness from the last 2 days has went completely away. I am thinking of having my doc order me more allergy meds. NOW I WILL TELL YOU... IF YOU TAKE AN INHALER OR ADRENAL HORMONE TO MUCH, YOU CAN FEEL IT WITHIN ABOUT AN HOUR OR HOUR AND A HALF. You'll get kind of jittery and/or have a major mood swing LOL. This is why I suggest if any of you take an inhaler with adrenal support, you do NOT take them at the same time! LOL. And take the adrenal pill in half or in 1/4 tab sections... that way you can see what you need and can work up to it

Guest guest
P.S. Kate..... If you are going to take an adrenal gland support, do NOT take the adrenal support with the ginseng and other herbs in it. They are not good for your kidneys and because many are foreign and unregulated, you can have a reaction from them or they can interact with other meds you are already taking. If you'd like to go the herbal route, talk to an herbalist and/or someone who practices Ayurvedic medicine. Guest guest
You know, now that you point it out... the reason I cannot drink town water (out of faucet) is because it upsets my stomach. I also have this problem with certain types of bottled water, which I stay away from. I recently went with my health food store's spring water (at 39 cents a bottle, not a bad deal) and it is the best water I've ever tasted!! I don't feel sick when I drink it. I don't believe I'm allergic to iodine, of course, with my body... all bets are off and anything is possible LOL. When I am able to, I'd like to go back to my allergy doc and see what he thinks. Re: It's a long one..... Curious, do you have any G.I. problems requiring a proton pump > inhibitor or acid reducer?> I ask because I also have been taking Prilosec for LPR. Again, > something new for me. I will share part of my story..I was having a lot of stomach problems.. ended up going for the scope..the doc found lots of scar tissue..I was having an allergic reaction more like contact dermatitis in my Esophagus..what was I allergic too that I ate all the time..Water?? I had noticed that the city had upped the chlorine levels, I found a place that rents the reverse osmosis systems for my tap water..and guess what..no stomach problems or meds.Fast forward to Thyroid fun.. have not solved the problem yet but find it interesting to note that Chlorine, Iodine, Fluoride all have the same chemical structure when it comes to dealing with the Thyroid. Now my allergist says my allergies are all Thyroid related.. my ENDO can not figure it out and says it is because I have some weird Iodine allergy..but has not tested me for it so now I am back to the allergist for hopefully a clue.Kats3boys

Guest guest
Yeah, it went something like this... 'so doc, how long will it be before the diarrhea stops?'.... 'oh, about 18 months or so...' I started laughing... then he just looked at me and I realized he was serious LOL. It apparently can take that long for the liver to pick up the function of the gall bladder. Looking back i was kind of funny, but man did I feel better after it was out. Sure, I had the runs and even went through that little rabbit ball phase... and for a while I wouldn't poo for 5 or 6 weeks at a time.. which sucked because I started poisoning my body that way. THAT is why I say lots of water for hypo people as we dehydrate easily. Interestingly enough, I can look at my skin now and tell how dehydrated I am 'oh, I need to drink 1 bottle or oh, better make that 2'.. The body is such an interesting vessel! Wish I had the instruction manual LOL! It's a long one.....> > > >> > > >> > > > Hi,> > > >> > > > I am coming to the thyroid boards to figure out what is going > on> > > > with me.
Guest guest
It is often said that people with Hashimoto's have an iodine " allergy " , it is suspected. I know I do have a dermal allergy to any form of it, suddenly developed back in about 1996 or so. I discovered it when I had my great toenails removed and tried to do a foot soak with just 5 or 6 drops of it in a gallon of water. The water was barely warm, but it almost burned the hyde off my feet. I couldn't figure out what was doing it until the 2nd foot soa, then I realized it was that. Called the podiatrist, and he said quote " You now have an iodine allergy, use the acetic pwdr " . Can't remember what that pwder is called, but it didn't burn my feet. Probably two yrs before that, I even took those iodine douches, and it didn't bother me one bit, but now, it's like someone poured battery acid on me. I was diagnosed hypothyroid in 1993 or 1994, but did not come up with the thyroid disease causing it until I tested myself for the antibodies back in what, 2001 or so? And they were in the thousands. Go figure. I know you said you don't have Hashi's antibodies, but it might be wise to have them run again at this point in time. There are many people who didn't have many antibodies, but on removal of their thyroids and gross examination, they were found to have a classic Hashi's gland, it happens. I think that's what your endo means when he says " iodine allergy " . Just think of what all that iodine is in, makes me downright paranoid and depressed. We have to spend our lives analyzing everything we use and eat. Guest guest
YEEEEHA no......white vinegar shouldn't be taken internally, it's the same stuff you clean calcium deposits with, it'll scour your innards as well. Always take the apple cider vinegar. Enuf of the white vinegar can kill a person. Please be careful! Now my allergist says my allergies are all Thyroid related.. my ENDO can not figure it out and says it is because I have some weird Iodine allergy..but has not tested me for it so now I am back to the allergist for hopefully a clue.Kats3boys Want to start your own business? Guest guest
I LOVE malt vinegar on my fries, but it just plain eats up the lining in my mouth and my mouth and tongue are sore for days!! I pay for it dearly, but I just have to have it sometimes. Teague wrote: wow... good to know . I have a problem though... I just can't seem to get enough malt vinegar on my french fries though....
