Hi Kathleen,My Ferritin levels are good.I am on 30 mg of HC and I thought this was enough to support my adrenals.  I did a 5 day temperature reading and every day I was stable.  I'll check temps starting tomorrow and see what happens.

In the mean time, should I cut back on it?  The last thing I want to do is give myself a heart attack.

How is your ferritin? I think you are on adrenal support, but low coritsol or low iron can both cause these I think. Feeling worse instead of better after starting thyroid meds is classic sign of either low iron or low cortisol.

It seems you are spreading it out enough to not cause problems, but you may have to consider dosing even more frequently, like 5 times a day.

I don't think it's okay to have your pulse going up to 120.

Hi ,

I'm not a mod, I was just trying to offer what information I do know, so don't

quote me or anything! I would definitely post again when they are here to try to

get help as to WHY you are experiencing this. 35 is not a high dose. Then again,

I was having a lot of issues on 37.5 a few months ago due to low cortisol.

People will shoot me for saying this but I had to switch to the time release, at

least temporarily, as it just seems to be easier on my adrenals.

What exactly is your ferritin? Was it at least 70? I know if it's lower than

this, you can get into issues.

Have you tried taking less doses more often? Nick doses every 3 hours. I know

that's hard if you're on a 4 hour dosing for HC, though.

I don't think you wll have a heart attack if your pulse goes that high for a 1/2

hour. :-) I'm sure mine goes that high while exercising sometimes. But maybe you

should lower your t3 a tad until the mods show up. I haven't seen them around

today as I have a question waiting to be answered, too.

BTW, are you the one experiecing derealization? I sent you an email but am not

sure that you got it or not. I wanted to write you because I have had that

issue, too, and for me, it was low cortisol! I didn't even know it. :-(( Oddly,

my temps were steady even though I had low cortisol. I had a phone consult and

Val and based on my symptoms, and the fact that my basals were always way higher

than my daily temps, she figured I had high nighttime cortisol and low daytime

cortisol. Since raising my HC to 25, my derealization is almost 100% gone and,

believe me, I was VERY scared. I've had it before but never that bad. I couldn't

even leave the house. It was the worst experience of my life, so imagine my

surprise (and elation) when it went almost entirely away just my raising my HC!

I am a tiny woman and on 25 HC, so it could be possible you need more than 30 HC

as a man. But I guess that would be a question for the adrenal forum. They're on

a break, unfortunately.

Val is great to talk to and it's not too expensive, either, really, if you want

to set up a phone consult with her over the break.

The only other thing I can think of is that Nick said a high pulse can be from

too low t3 as your adrenals try to compensate by increasing adrenaline. But I

don't think that applies to you because your pulse is only high right after

taking the t3. It does seem you are not tolerating it for some reason. I know my

heart pounds when my cortisol is too low.

Sorry for rambling. Just trying to throw out anything that might even remotely

be helpful.

Hi Kathleen,Thanks for the email. I think your suggestion of consulting with Val is the next logical step for me.  Thanks for the derealization info also. I've had it for about 3 years and only had relief when I went on prednsisone for a month due to a medical condition.  So, maybe I do need to bump up my HC.  I'll see what Val has to say.

Thanks again.Mike

Hi Mike,

On the home page of this board, just click on the button that says " arrange a

call with Val " and follow the directions. I think she told me she is home most

evenings after 6 EST U.S. I am pretty sure she will still take appointments even

though the adrenal group is on break.

Did you ever actually get the email I sent you about

derealization/depersonalization (DP)? Just wondering b/c you never replied...

Three years! I'm so sorry; that's my worst nightmare. I've had it on and off

since I was 14, but it always goes into " remission. " It tends to come on with

stress, which makes sense. I was thrown into therapy many times (ha ha, no help

there!) and put on Prozac once. Eventually was told I had a panic disorder. The

SSRIs actually helped, although I won't touch them now, but I take 5htp and it

does help me a lot.

If Pred gave you relief, well, that says something. I was scared of HC, which is

why I wasn't taking very much, but I'll take a lifetime of HC over derealization

anyday! I am pretty sure that DP is an anxiety based disorder. In fact, I'm

positive. But the question is where the anxiety comes from. Yes, I'm sure my

Type A personality and lifestyle blew through all my serotonin, but my exhausted

adrenals and the adrenaline surges seem to be huge culprits, too. Which would

make sense why it gets worse with stress. A viscious cycle. All I know is about

2 weeks after Val had me raise the HC -- DP almost gone 100%.

So definitely ask Val about your HC dose.

Anyway, sorry if TMI. I just wanted you to know you're not alone. And I found an

EXCELLENT ebook called " DP Manual " by O'Connor. Google it. It's like $20

and has an audio version, too, that helped me tremendously to listen to while

working, etc.

Hi Kathleen,Thanks for the info. It's nice to know that I'm not going through this alone. Yeah,3 years of toughing it out.  I finally couldn't cope anymore last fall when I was trying to get a project done in grad school.  My mind went totally blank and I couldn't organize any of the information or even do the statistics on the computer.  So, at the advice of my wife and family, I took a medical leave of absence.  My DP is mainly from too many head shots I took while playing rugby as an undergrad in college.  The doc I'm working with now says that those, combined with my busy lifestyle, left my brain/body unable to cope with the stress.

I probably did get your email but never opened it.  As I'm sure this happens to you, I get a lot of emails daily from all of the yahoo groups I'm a part of, so it probably slipped through the cracks.  If you can find it, please send it again.

IThanks again for the emails.  I'll get back to you if I have any more questions.Regards,Mike

Hi Nick,I'm currently on 30 mg of HC (10, 10, 5, 5). Although I am going to bump it up to 35 mg, I hesitate to because when I take the 10 mg dose, my dereaslation gets worse. I've also gained 15 pounds, have a lot of acne on my shoulders and back and my face is starting to fill out.   I have done the temp test and it srays at 98.3.

I'm really not sure what to do at this point because yesterday, I felt hyper pretty much the entire day.  I can actually feel my heart beating sometimes and at one point, my chest felt like my heart sank down into my gut.   It's strange because my labs all point in the direction of needing these hormones, but my body seems to say that I don't.  I'll up the HC dosage and see what happens.

Thanks,Mike

What happens to your temperature at that time?? T3 generally builds

and reduces slower that that so I am suspecting cortisol issues with

the dose of T3 using it up faster than you can produce it and

adrenalaline getting produced as a result. This surge of adrenaline

then produces the fast pulse just after the T3 dose. If this is the

case you may see a DROP in temperaure.

Have you done the " 3 times a day and average them " temperature test,

it sounds like cortisol to me unless you have low ferritin.

What dose and timing of HC are you on, my gut feeling is that it's not

enough!

Was that stable temperature on the current T3 dose or on a lower

dose??

As you increase T3 it is not uncommon to need more HC, at least

temporarily.

The symptoms you are getting could be too much HC but they could also

be hypo thyroid

>I'm really not sure what to do at this point because yesterday, I felt hyper

I get missed beats and feel it beating when I am hypo sometimes!

Hyper thyroid is high temperature and high pulse.

" Too much T3 for the state of adrenals or ferritin " can be all sorts

of strange symptoms including a temperature drop after taking T3.

Unfortunately sometimes it's a case of " change one thing at a time "

and drop or increase each in turn until you can identify what's

causing the symptoms.

Clues are if they occur just after taking T3 or several hours after

when you are ready for the next dose.

That was a stable temp on the lower dose of T3.  I'm not doubting that my symptoms could be from being hypo. I just have read about the side effects of too much HC and too much T3, and it seems that I'm experiencing both.  I'll give it another go this week, track temps and pulse and see what happens.

Thanks,Mike

Was that stable temperature on the current T3 dose or on a lower

dose??

As you increase T3 it is not uncommon to need more HC, at least

temporarily.

The symptoms you are getting could be too much HC but they could also

be hypo thyroid

I get missed beats and feel it beating when I am hypo sometimes!

Hyper thyroid is high temperature and high pulse.

" Too much T3 for the state of adrenals or ferritin " can be all sorts

of strange symptoms including a temperature drop after taking T3.

Unfortunately sometimes it's a case of " change one thing at a time "

and drop or increase each in turn until you can identify what's

causing the symptoms.

Clues are if they occur just after taking T3 or several hours after

when you are ready for the next dose.
