I've been on a low carb diet for over 30 years. It didn't protect me from the

dangers of

artificial sweeteners.

cna tell

you this they did not eat low carb diets so this in itself may be a very good

point. I have

often thought it was weird I get no headaches, joint pain or other symotms when

I

iundulge in a little Nutrasweet or Splenda.

>>I really cannot imagine the artificial ones are any better than just taking

the real thing, especially if a person only does it occasionally and in

moderation.

There are also natural fruit sweeteners and juices that can add extra

sweetness. A squeeze of orange can do wonders, lol. Cheri<<

Cheri, Jim and I are Diabetic. YES just a little natural sweetness from fruit

can be too much for our bodies to tolerate! I had t give up my beloved orange

juice and sea salt as even the light OJ was MUCH too high in sugars for me. As

my main source of liquid consumption is coffee (decaf now) and I can;t stand it

unless it is sweet, the sweeteners are a necessity for me. Believe me being

DIabetic takes SO much foods right out of the picture that small transgressions

of things liek Splenda are almost a necessity. I could not possibly use sugar in

my 4 cups of coffee every day. It would increase my insulin needs too much. I

think being a Diabetic has really opened my eyes to the need for safe

alternatives to high carb foods, but unfortunately when you see a " sugar free "

section in the grocery store.. take a look at the label. It is disgusting.,

There is little to nothing there I can eat.

We use the real thing, raw honey, agave syrup or maple syrup are real whole

foods, contain

minerals and enzymes that your body can recognize and break down. Putting fruit

in your

water can taste really good. We put lemons, limes, or strawberries in water.

It's really good!

Oh, yeah, well if you drink that much coffee, sugar would be bad. I have

used a little grape juice to sweeten things and fresh orange juice but by a

little I mean like a teaspoon not a glass full.

Too bad you don't like Stevia. It has really saved me.

I have used honey too but it is too much sugar for me. Agave doesn't spike

blood sugar so that one is good for cooking but it isn't sweet enough for me

to have in drinks. Mostly I just don't use anything but around period time I

have those cravings. ;)

Xylitol has other blessings.

Candida thinks its suger and eats it, and then starves to death like the

Triibbles in Star Trek. They can't get any nourishment out of it any more than

we can.

Certain harmful bacteria as the ones in our mouths, also die from it. In fact

dentists say chewing Xylitol gum is actually good for us!

Oh, no. Why did you have to compare it to tribbles dying? I loved those

those tribbles, lol. :) Cheri

Xylitol would be a good alternative. My nutritionist is the one who convinced

me to try it.
