I have 8 month old twins and they both hated tummy time. I wouldn't worry about forcing them to have tummy time. If your daughter will only be on her tummy for small periods of time then just go with it. If 2 minutes is her limit, then you could just have increase the number of tummy times she has.(leaving her on her tummy the 2 minutes or what ever her limit is.)

I wouldn't worry about your daughter learning to crawl. When she is ready, she will crawl, and it will be like she has been doing it all a long. That's how my son Spencer was. He hardly crawled when he had his DOC band on (he was in it from 5 months to 8 months). Right after he graduated from the DOC band, it was as if he had been crawling the hole time. Both my son and daughter, crawl, and roll over and it seems like they will be walking soon. Don't worry, things will progress for your daughter. :)

[sPAM] Tummy Time Help!!!

I am a first time mommy and know it is important for my 5 month old daughter to have tummy time but she HATES it. She has always disliked being on her tummy. Now that she is able to sit up on her own she does not even want to be on her back unless she is sleeping. Cranial Technologies and her doctor keep saying that she will get used to being on her tummy and to keep increasing the time each day. My problem is after about two mins of being on her tummy she starts to scream (15 mins is the longest she has ever doe at a time). It starts off as a cry and I try and try to keep her entertained but it soon turns into a scream. My question is what am I doing wrong? Should I let her scream and stay on her tummy longer. I have tried all sorts of toys, mirrors etc. I am afraid she will never learn to crawl and she has only rolled over once. Thanks,Kim

I know this will not help with 'Tummy-time' with any of the older babies anymore, but I would like to pass on what the clinician told my daughter: She said to make sure when she has the next baby to include tummy-time right from the start, whenever the baby is awake. Since I am of the older generation that put babies to bed on their tummies I believe that there might be a lot of truth to it. I am in my early 60s and the babies of our generation where always put on their tummies and never complained about it. Maybe thats the trick; get them used to it from the start.

I don't know if this will help or not but my p/t told me to hold my

son facing down and to play superman with him holding him above me she

said that might help with tummy time. (My son still is not a fan and

now just rolls over when placed on his tummy). I also wanted to say

as far as crawling goes I have not been concerned my daughter walked

first then crawled. I know my p/t thinks it effects their reading (I

have no idea why) but my daughter is 14 and loves to read.

Hi Kim,

I am right there with you. I have ended my guilt with the amount of tummy time

my son

had. I blamed myself for his plagio because I know he hated being on his tummy.

He was a

colicky baby as well and the screaming (around the clock!) was too much to bear.

He hated

being on his tummy. He is 8 months old now and has had his helmet since 5

months. He is

doing great, but still doesn't crawl.

My doctor said that some kids don't like being on their tummies and not to blame

myself

or worry about it. I keep thinking if I could go back, I would just force him to

be on his

tummy and let him cry - that would keep him off that flat spot, but I know

that's not what

I would do.

Just listen to your instincts and do your best!

My son also hated tummy time – but I

enforced it because of his flat head. And then he would only sleep on his flat

spot so it was a bit of a losing battle anyway. Regardless, I think it is good

to encourage the tummy time as much as is practicable. But 15 minutes of

unhappiness is probably all I could bear!
