Guest guest
After I had all my amalgam fillings removed, tried to chelate and couldn't, I found that I had 4 crowns with amalgam under them. Well when I had the first crown out, I had a rubber dam and oxygen too. I became REALLY sick. For the next crown, I had the rubber dam, oxygen, and continuous lavage and suction (rinsing and sucking the fluid out continuously). With this technique and as much selenomethionine as I could take starting just before the dental work and a few days after I didn't experience such a worsening of symptoms after the second and third crowns. The selenomethionine dose was about 100 mcg. every 4 hrs. --but this varies widely from individual to individual-you'll know you have too much when it becomes more difficult than usual to walk up stairs-Andy says some people get overdose symptoms at 750+ mcg/day. There was a month in between crowns 1, 2, and 3. This allowed by mercury level to decrease by half. On the last crown, I got excited about being finished and I rushed it and left only 1 week between crowns 3 and 4. Boy did I pay for that!!! I was sick for about a month. You know, you can't take vitamin C before the dental work because then the anesthetic may not work. I didn't mention that I took a water bottle with buffered vitamin C along and chugged it right after the dentist was finished. Then I had another bottle of vitamin C water that I drank on the way home. I also brought a change of clothes and washed my face and any other exposed part of my body and put a scarf over my hair, and then changed into the clean clothes. The dentist's office had some kind of ventilation system that changed the air in the room rapidly so I think that may have helped a little, but I'm not sure. I kept at the vitamin C and selenium big time for the next few days!!! I also had a list of what to do before and after dental work--what supplements to take before and which ones to take after, clothes, etc. and anything else I needed to remember. I revised it after each session with the dentist. On the supplements before the dental work, I cut them to the bare bone and took what I'd missed a few hours after I got back from the dentist. I didn't want any interactions while I was in the dentist's chair! I was always cold too and have hypothyroid symptoms too. I take supplementary thyroid and DHEA and B1 for them. I'm only cold every once in a while now. Watch the sulfur levels when you start chelating! My husband and I both found that when we raised our chelation dose too high and thereby introduced more sulfur into our systems, we started to have high blood pressure. Did you have the test to see if you have high cysteine? Might be a good idea! Since my husband and I are both in the normal zone for cysteine, we just watch out not to overload our systems. If you're high cysteine, Andy recommends cutting out all sulfur foods. Also note that some of the supplements Andy recommends have sulfur in them--taurine and NAC have quite a bit, SAMe and biotin have some, thiamine has a little. Sometimes it's a juggling act to play around with chelating, which has sulfur, and the supplements with sulfur too! See what works for you. Here was my experience with chelating after amalgam removal: I waited the 4 days after removal and then started a low dose of DMSA. Symptoms were pretty bad at first so I looked in Andy's book again and tried his suggestion of chelating with DMSA on a low dose for 10 days on and 4 days off. It really worked better for the suppression of symptoms for me. Then after 3 months post-amalgam removal, I added LA to the DMSA, both at low doses. When I tried to raise the dose of DMSA above 25 mg/3.5 hrs, I broke out in a severe skin yeast infection. This happened about 5 months post-amalgam removal. As a result, I started chelating with LA alone and it did not exacerbate my yeast problem at all. (Took OKG to build up neutrophils and now the yeast is under control.) I don't have redistribution problems if I take 100 mcg. of selenomethionine every 4 hrs. starting with the last dose of the cycle and continuing for the day after chelation. I guess I'm one of those people who does well on selenomethionine. If you care to search curezone, I have listed the current status of all my symptoms under ssheeba. I did that yesterday. This may give you some hope for a brighter future. I'm so filled with joy at my progress. I know I'll have to keep at it for probably another year, but it's worth it to feel so much better. I'm in the 6th-9th month slump that Andy talks about on p. 52 of his book. For me, it's just a slowing of progress and I had to deal with my adrenal problems instead of ignoring them. Last progress noted for me was last Saturday I walked down the cleaning supplies aisle in my grocery store for the first time since January when I started having my crowns removed. (I developed multiple chemical sensitivities because of the high levels of mercury I was exposed to during the removal of the crowns and fillings.) Last progress noted for my husband was that he slept the whole night through Monday night for the first time in literally years and years.
