That is wonderful! I found great improvements with florinef as well :D My BF always talks about sodium in our bodies like a battery with low fluids. Without enough salt nothing can communicate leaving us all foggy, confused, aggitated etc. I am sure it will present differently from person to person but still the same idea generally.

Great to hear you feel so much better Kathleen :D

I am posting this here and to the NTH Adreanl group since so many seem to suffer from this debilitating condition, which I will abbreviate as DP (for depersonalization, which is pretty much the same thing and most have both).Anyway, long story short, it went almost completely away once I increased my HC. Unfortunately, I had to take a lot of HC due to my symptoms of shakiness, trembling, feeling spaced out all the time, feeling like I was going to "fade out." None of which helps with the DP of course.Well, I started Florinef about 1 week ago and MY GOD, the DP is TOTALLY GONE! In fact, I actually FLEW to Dallas and drove on the highway for 1 and 1/2 hours BY MYSELF! I stayed in a hotel by myself. :-) Yes, I had a few moments of anxiety here and there and some spaciness, which I attribute to the stress of traveling and how hot it was causing some salt loss, but overall, the trip went off without a hitch and I'm home without a trace of

DP left.I actually think the Florinef helped the DP. Why? I don't know for sure. Maybe it's because Florinef helps with being spaced out or dizzy due to electrolyte imbalances and those sorts of things really aggravate DP. Or maybe it's just that ANY insufficiency of adrenal hormones leads to anxiety and anxiety = DP. I truly believe that DP CANNOT exist if there is no anxiety.Anyway, for anyone suffering from this condition of DP, please hang in there! And get those dern adrenals fixed. :-)Kathleen

Thanks, Kitty, and that is really interesting info. I should be mad that I could

have fixed the DP with Florinef a long time ago, but NO, I'm going to rejoice

that I'm finally feeling human, both mentally and physically.

I saw a mod suggest salt water for anxiety one time and I thought " What? " Now I

understannd. :-)

Right before I figured out that I had an adrenal issue I had a few days where I had very little salt <my BF usually cooks for me and would always salt my food, if I cooked I left it off and I had cooked for myself for 2-3 days> I felt HORRIBLE! Very anxious, restless-like I wanted to clean or move around but couldn't get up, angry/crying, etc. it was bizzare! Little did I know he had been doing research on his own and had read about salt water, made me drink it and low and behold I felt better!

I am not sure what the definition of depersonalization is but if my salt gets low I can't concentrate or follow conversation, get very angry/irritable, very tired-I used to sleep for days at a time, just couldn't get up from the couch!

I hear you about being angry with the docs, I feel so much better in 4 months than in 8 years with doctors. What can you do.... Just be happy we feel better now I guess!

Kitty,

On a different note, did you have any issues with insomnia when you started

Florinef? I've been having a lot of sleep problems since I increased HC, but

everything else got better. It was finally starting to sleep better, but these

past few days, I'm sleeping really, really awful again. In fact, I made an

appointment with my Holtorf doc because one thing they ARE good in is that they

will do pretty much antyhing to get a person to be able to sleep, including

Xyrem (which is rx GHB). I hate that stuff b/c it makes me feel a bit sick the

next day but it's not addictive and it works every time to make you sleep so at

least I can take it a couple times a week. Sigh.

I need to get some sleep here or I'm going to pass out! I'm surprised I feel as

well as I do considering the way I've been not sleeping the past few days. :-(

Thanks,

Kathleen

I never had trouble with insomnia. I tend to wake up constantly, usually every few hours, to pee. Still have it going on :( I was sweating profusely but that seems better since I started the hormone creams. I wish I could just STAY asleep! You don't sleep at all? I had to stop taking a bedtime dose of HC.

florinef is a mineralcorticoid used to treat low aldosterone. You do blood work to test aldosterone and renin to see if you need it. http://faqhelp.webs.com/aldosteroneandrenin.htm

Wow, that's one nice BF you have! :-) My husband is wonderful, but he lets me do

my own research. And I'm the food and health guru over here, lol, so I make our

dinners. ;-)

BTW, derealization is this horrid condition in which you don't feel like you

and/or your surroundings are " real. " It's extremely terrifiying. It happens very

commonly during panic attacks but for some people, it sticks around even after

the attack and basically ruins our lives. It's very difficult to explain and

when it goes away, you really can't " feel " it anymore, which makes it even

harder to explain. But the brain being able to forget such things is actually

good!

It's not dumb, Mike, but I think Kitty answereed your question about

aldosterone. There is a page on it over at the Stop the madness site.

I was wondering how you were doing. Are you feeling a bit better?

I had to cut my t3 down a bit due to anxiety. I'm hoping to bump it back up once

I get onto enough Florinef. I am VERY close, I can tell.

No, I sleep. I'm like you, I wake up every 2 hours until finally, after about 6

hours, sometimes only 5, I can't sleep any more at all. That is not enough sleep

for me! I need more like 9, at least 8.

I don't mind the waking if I could keep falling back asleep. It's not being able

to get that last couple of hours that is KILLING me. I'm not waking to pee,

either. Well, I have been the past week, but this constant waking has been going

on a long time. ANd last night, I only peed once. So that really isn't the

problem.

You don't take bedtime HC even though you're on 32.5? Maybe that is my trouble.

I thought I needed more HC to sleep but maybe I need less. I guess all I can do

is experiment. I did have to drop the bedtime t3, though, as that really woke me

up, especially in combo with the HC.

I am not sure if I waking from low cortisol which gives me adrenaline rush or

high cortisol. I just know that when I wake around 5 or 6, I'm so WIDE awake I

totally cannot go back to sleep at all.

You can find lots of info if you google it, but basically it means you don't

feel real and/or your surroundings don't feel " real. " If it sounds surreal, try

living it!! ;) It's H*LL.

I'm currently going through Derealization and I can tell you that it is like watching the world through a movie screen.  You know everything is there but you just don't feel like you are a part of it.  I am able to somewhat function but I have to keep telling myself that this is all real. Sometimes, I even have to physically touch something in order for my brain to realize that it is real and not something that is in another world.  And your vision gets really distorted. Sometimes, things will even look like they are in 2D instead of 3D.  When it gets really bad, I have to just hang out in my bedroom and watch movies until it lightens up to the point that I can function.  It's a horrible state of mind that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

However, I do know that there is a cure for it and, hopefully, I'll find relief soon.

Wow, that's one nice BF you have! :-) My husband is wonderful, but he lets me do my own research. And I'm the food and health guru over here, lol, so I make our dinners. ;-)

BTW, derealization is this horrid condition in which you don't feel like you and/or your surroundings are " real. " It's extremely terrifiying. It happens very commonly during panic attacks but for some people, it sticks around even after the attack and basically ruins our lives. It's very difficult to explain and when it goes away, you really can't " feel " it anymore, which makes it even harder to explain. But the brain being able to forget such things is actually good!

I remember this. It went away only a few days after I started T3-only. Haven't come back to me even if I am on ERFA Thyroid now.I hate the feeling of "unreality" ... I wish you well Mike!!!

Mike,

Watching movies really helped me a lot as well. It became my escape. It's sort

of grounding to watch other people, that you know you are just like even though

you can't quite feel it. I even downloaded some movies to my ipod to listen to

while driving (when I COULD drive) so I can hear people talking to ground me. I

also really, really liked the DP Manual. Just listening to the guy's accent was

a nice distraction! I would listen to it while trying to work or else I would be

so busy thinking " Is this real " that I couldn't get anything done. But I don't

listen to it anymore b/c I don't even want to hear about DP anymore. Aside from

helping people here, I mean.

I can tell you that this year was a living h*ll and nightmare for me, but I'm

here to tell you I made it. I told myself I was going to stick it out with the

t3 this year and try to finally get my health back. In the past, I'd start

having panic attacks and DP and stop the t3 because I didn't know what was

causing what, and then I'd get sick and yada, yada. Until I finally got REALLY

sick and basically lost all remnants of health.

Well, I guess the low ferritin, rt3, and the adrenal issues just can cause all

that anxiety. And I'm sorry to offend anyone but I'm not afraid to take

anti-anxiety meds to get through it, either, because d*mnit, I was getting

better no matter what!

But it was SCARY, SCARY. The 5-htp helped (I highly recommned trying some), the

benzos helped, but the increase in HC and then the Florinef just did the trick.

And you know what, that DP manual helped, too, because he tells you to make

yourself do things. (There's a lot more he says than that, don't worry.)

I finally felt good enough physically to take a trip. Now you have to

understand, I haven't been able to drive myself into town, let alone fly to

another state and get a rental car amd drive down the highway. Most days I

couldn't wait to crawl into bed and watch my DVD player. But I wanted to go on

this trip and being there with the friends and everything I loved (it was a

horseshow), well, it sort of just kicked the last remnants of DP away because I

was so busy interacting and feeling so happy that I actually felt physically

well enough to even be there. Of course, I was on the Florinef by then and had

increased it, too.

But the thing is that, yes, this is a real condition, but our minds won't let it

go and that's why it sticks around. And when you keep getting anxious from

adreanls, whatever, it's really hard to let it go! That's where the HC, the

Florinef and yes, the anti-anxiety meds came in. And I did feel a *twinge* of it

on the way home when I got super tired and needed a stress dose. But that was

it. And sitting here and the past few days, I feel like I'm normal again. LIke

it just went away. Took it long enough!!

I won't lie. I was practically suicidal recently, that's how bad it was. So I do

know how it feels.

Download the DP manual. Maybe it will help you. Try some 5htp. Don't be afraid

of meds until you get the adrenal thing straight. My p-doc is SO understanding.

I fessed up I was taking a larger dose than I was prescribed and she was totally

was okay with it! (I'm still taking a " normal " dose.) I told her I didn't want

to sacrafice my physical health for my mental health and she said I shoulodn't

have to! I want to get optimized on adrenal and thryoid hormones and not have to

stop them because I feel I'm going crazy with DP, and she was all for it. She

told me I needed to be totally stable for 2-3 months before I even think of

coming off the anxiety meds. And what a relief THAT was, to be given permission

to take something that helps me though the worst of it so I could get on with

life. I know I will be able to wean down when it's time.

Sorry for going on. But after what I've been through, and what I suspect you're

going through, I want you to know YOU ARE NOT ALONE and someone does understand.

If I can think of other things that helped me, like the movies that you already

know about, I will write you.

That's great, !

The truth is that everyone experiences this once in a while. They jsut shake it

off and forget about it. It's when it doesn't go away that the terror sets in.

altho I am NOT on t3 only treatment, I too have had

this problem occasionally

and once when I had left home in a hurry it was

severely when I discovered later that morning when I

got completely non-functional and just had to sit

quietly for a while as I was even unable to stand.

I had forgotten to take all my AM pills of HC &

thyroid and other meds...and I definitely attribute

this depersonalization to a deficiency of cortisol or

hydrocortisone,(

He is a wonderful man :D Always taking care of me! I have never had anything

like that, I just have trouble talking/following conversations when I have low

sodium. It was an odd feeling. Or when I would feel really depressed I would

think of things to say but couldn't get myself to speak, like the words were

stuck. All of these things are obviously linked, just so frustrating that

doctors ignore everything or just tell you that you are crazy :(

Without enough salt nothing can communicate leaving us all foggy, confused,

still the same idea generally.

Maybe it's because Florinef helps with being spaced out or dizzy due to

electrolyte imbalances and those sorts of things really aggravate DP. Or maybe

it's just that ANY insufficiency of adrenal hormones leads to anxiety and

anxiety = DP. I truly believe that DP CANNOT exist if there is no anxiety.

I can sleep for days if I stayed in bed! I can fall back to sleep no problem. I know that sleep is a cyclical thing and you can't reach the right level of sleep if you wake constantly. The other thing for me is I spend no time in the recooperative sleep, delta I think?, and go to REM instantly and constantly. You are supposed to go to REM after 90 min, in my sleep study it was as soon as 3 min :o

I stopped the night time dose a while back, just added it back in during the day. I can't do t3 at bed either. My heart races and I am wide awake. If something disturbs me I get really weepy... it was weird.

I don't know what is waking me either :( I wish we could figure it out though as I am sure if we slept better our bodies wouldn't be so stressed!

No, I sleep. I'm like you, I wake up every 2 hours until finally, after about 6 hours, sometimes only 5, I can't sleep any more at all. That is not enough sleep for me! I need more like 9, at least 8.I don't mind the waking if I could keep falling back asleep. It's not being able to get that last couple of hours that is KILLING me. I'm not waking to pee, either. Well, I have been the past week, but this constant waking has been going on a long time. ANd last night, I only peed once. So that really isn't the problem. You don't take bedtime HC even though you're on 32.5? Maybe that is my trouble. I thought I needed more HC to sleep but maybe I need less. I guess all I can do is experiment. I did have to drop the bedtime t3, though, as that really woke me up, especially in combo with the HC.I am not sure if I waking from low cortisol which gives me adrenaline rush or high cortisol. I just know that when I wake around 5 or 6, I'm so

WIDE awake I totally cannot go back to sleep at all. Kathleen> >> > That is wonderful! I found great improvements with florinef as well :D My BF always talks about sodium in our bodies like a battery with low fluids. Without enough salt nothing can communicate leaving us all foggy, confused, aggitated etc. I am sure it will present differently from person to person but still the same idea generally. > > Great to hear you feel so much better Kathleen :D> > > > Kitty> > > > > > > > > > ________________________________> > From: keickholt13 <keickholt13@>> > To: RT3_T3 > > Sent: Wed, June 16, 2010 12:20:55 PM> > Subject: Success with Derealization!> > > >  > > I am posting this here and to the NTH Adreanl group since so many seem to suffer from this debilitating condition, which I will abbreviate as DP (for depersonalization, which is pretty much the same thing and most have both).> > > > Anyway, long story short, it went almost completely away once I increased my HC. Unfortunately, I had to take a lot of HC due to my symptoms of shakiness, trembling, feeling spaced out all the time, feeling like I was going to "fade out." None of which helps with the DP of course.> > > > Well, I started Florinef about 1 week ago and MY GOD, the DP is TOTALLY GONE! In fact, I actually FLEW to Dallas and drove on the highway for 1 and 1/2 hours BY MYSELF! I

stayed in a hotel by myself. :-) Yes, I had a few moments of anxiety here and there and some spaciness, which I attribute to the stress of traveling and how hot it was causing some salt loss, but overall, the trip went off without a hitch and I'm home without a trace of DP left.> > > > I actually think the Florinef helped the DP. I truly believe that DP CANNOT exist if there is no anxiety.> > > > Anyway, for anyone suffering from this condition of DP, please hang in there! And get those dern adrenals fixed. :-)> > > > Kathleen> >>

I agree. I went low on cortisol yesterday when I left the house and immediately

started to feel anxious and a twinge of the DP. I KNOW it's cortisol/aldosterone

related.

Yes, that's true about serotonin! I am sure that's why people get depressed when

they're hypoT.

But the other thing is that when you're low in cortisol, you often produce

adrenaline instead, which causes anxiety, which can also lead to DP. So it's a

double whammy as both low serotonin and high adrenaline are linked to anxiety

disorders.
