I all my amalgams replaced 16 months ago. I have one tooth that has

been very sensitive to hot/cold. However, lately the pain is

horrible. It flares up off and on, when aggravated by something

hot/cold or biting into a hard food.

Anyway, I went to the dentist (which I fear) because I can't stand

it anymore. They x-rayed it and of course wanted to do a $1000 root

canal becaue the filling is very deep right to the nerve and

probably what the problem is. I refused it and asked them to pull

it. They suggested removing the filling to get a better idea of the

condition of the tooth and then placing a medicated filling. If the

medicated filling helps the tooth heal up, they would place a

permanent filling. If not, then I would have to have it pulled. The

dentist wants to try to save the tooth because this is the only side

I have left to chew on.

It is their opinion that the problem is the filling is too deep and

my bite is probably off, aggravating the tooth.

Is this worth my time and money?? Or should I just have it pulled.

What are the chances this can save a tooth, or heal up the pulp like

I am reading. Has anyone had this done? Please email me if you can,

I really need some guidance on what to do. Thanks in advance

From my own experience I would never have another root canal. I went

that route. I had a root canal cleaned out twice, refilled and I

still had problems with it....wound up with an infected jaw bone and

finally had to have the dang thing pulled, and I was put on

antibiotics. As I said I will never have another root canal again let

alone have one retreated. Although for me it was a back tooth. I just

left the space as it isn't seen even when I smile, and I can chew

with it. I just don't want any more metals in my mouth. Just my

opinion. V

I agree with .

I ended up needing a root canal after a botched amalgam filling

cracked and i needed it treated and removed right away (the amalgam

filling). If I would have had more time to think about it I would

have said no way to the root canal. I plan to have the root canal and

tooth removed and cavitations cleaned (i think this is the term)

after I do the amalgam removal.

The root canal tooth is sometimes very sore almost like a cavity-

tooth ache. It just so happens to be also along the liver-gall

bladder meridian (in accupuncture lines), so I think there is an

increasing liklihood for it to mess with my already compromised

liver.

The huggins referred dentist that i went to see said he has asked

some of these root canal surgeons (who remove root canalled teeth)

what they see when they are removing them and they said many times it

was pretty gnarly, almost a gangrene along the base of the tooth/jaw.

He was a young guy and said the same thing we are discussing and

thinking; he would not have a root canal and that it would seem more

dangerous to have them, than not to have. He had no vested interest

in saying this as he does not put them in (usually) and does not take

them out.

Huggins says to treat cavitations and remove root canals (I am pretty

sure). It just seems the right thing to not put in your mouth for

those of us who alreday have a bucket of problems involving dental

materials and mercury.

Dentists I hate to say it, obviously have a financial interest in

putting more crap in us, with no regard to its impact. I am sure not

every root canal is a problem as you would have many many sick people

BUT i do think in many of us who are already sick it can only hurt

and in NO way help, so to me its thats simple. No More SHI* in our

mouth!!

However having said that i do believe you should consider a bridge or

something to support your bite, if you do remove the tooth

(especially if its a molar)
