Labs and symptoms suggest hypo but very high hart rate

Here I am again, trying to make sense of my symptoms/labs... rT3 cleared about

two months ago and so far haven't been able to find my T3 dose and I have great

difficulties to " read " my body. As far as I can tell I have rather severe hypo

symptoms, but my hart is racing far too much (right now, sitting peacefully in

front of the computer for a while my hart rate is 100, but it gets sometimes to

120), and it seems to go faster as I rise T3...

I am now taking 62.5 mg T3 and 22.5 HC. I had a blood draw this morning and this

is the result (11,30 hours after last T3 dose):

Free T3 : 4.65 pmol/L (2.63-5.7)

Some weeks ago I was taking 37.5 mg T3 and 27.5 HC, and the results were (12/13

hours after last T3 dose):

Free T3 : 3.88 pmol/L (2.63-5.7)

It seems I am still a bit hypo (which will agree with most of my symptoms) but,

what can I do with my hart, it acctually scares me when it races this way.

My ferritin after clearance was 120, so I don't think this is the problem. I

tested electrolites today as well and the results were:

Sodium: 145 mEq/L (135-155)

Potassium: 4.2 mEq/L (3.5-5.5)

(I am supplementong !200 potassium, and half teaspoon of salt twice a day)

I do need all the help I can get!

Many, many thanks,

So, do you think the high hart rate is because I'm not tolerating T3?

But my free T3 has been much higher before (even when I was on Armour) and I

didn't have this fast hart beat... Also my ferritin is higher now that it has

been since I started thyroid replacement...

I have been reducing HC lately (after clearance) following your suggestion.

Actually one peculiar thing is that before clearance I was loosing weight by the

day (becoming even too thin) and after clearance, from one day to the next, I

started putting on weight quite rapidly. I interpreted this as my adrenals being

in a better shape but I have to say I am right now completely lost.

Is it possible at all that the fast hart beat is caused by too much HC?

Many thanks,

I guess is not low salt (latest labs: Sodium: 145 mEq/L (135-155)) and I don't

think is adrenaline (because I think I recognize how that feels).

Is there a way for me to distinguish between intolerance to T3 and high cortisol

(I am now taking 22.5 HC)?

Many, many thanks,

Absolutely NO pro here, but what ARE your symptoms? I've been looking closely

at hypo symptoms and adrenal fatigue symptoms, and they seem to intertwine a

lot. In my case, I know I have bad adrenals due to the huge amount of stress

and my inability to deal with it over the past 10 years. Are you taking

anything besides the HC for the adrenals? Dr. Lam's office suggests a LOT of

vitamin C. I'm taking it in 3 different forms. If it weren't for this nagging

shortness of breath I've been having for two months, so many of my symptoms have

disappeared. I was told last week I was reversing, so I guess I'm waiting for

the rt3 to clear now. The doctor took me off of the Naturethroid, so I'm on HC,

but no thyroid right now. Said she would put me on t3 later. I also take other

adrenal support. Since I'm on NO thyroid right now, and my labs show that my

free t3 to rt3 ratio is like 10.00, I am taking iodine in hopes it will at least

boost my throid some. (Is this a good or bad idea, )? I also have low

b-12, and high thyroglobulin antibodies. She hasn't checked my iron levels yet,

so not sure where I am on that.

My temps are not too high, only heart rate is high. I just wonder if it could be

high cortisol instead of T3 intolerance what is causing the high pulse. Would it

be a way to tell apart T3 intolerance from high cortisol?

My eyes are dry like sandpaper (mostly when I wake up) and I have back pain

(which went away both with synthroid and Armour). I am very tired and depressed

also (but these never went away with any previous thyroid medication so I am not

sure they are thyroid symptoms for me... who knows.

Val, Why did you suggest to do a full iron panel? Do you think my ferritin (120

after clearance, about two months ago) may be " falsely " high?... you see, I

don't think so because it has been rising gradually as I supplemented iron. It

was 40 at the beginning, then 70 and last time it was 120.

Many thanks,

Brrrrr!!!

pulse was 80/85 for two days after reducing cortisol, which was great, but now

is up again to 100/120... I have reduced cortisol again but so far no change.

Pulse went up suddently yesteday at midday and has stayed high since...

Yesterday my temps during the day where high even up to 99.2 (post.ovulation)

and that makes me wonder if I am actually hyper... but I still have hypo

symptoms... I feel sooo lost...

Many thanks Nick,

But I don't know how I feel (apart from bad). It is difficult for me to read my

body, I do not feel so " responsive " to small changes in meds. I certainly do not

feel better or worse after a few hours of changing cortisol dose.

I feel sooo depressed this morning, I slept horribly with nightmares and cramps

in my calves. It seems nothing is working and I don't feel particularly better

than 2 year ago when I started treating thyroid. Sometimes I have even started

to regret I took the self treating route instead of staffing myself with

antidepresants as doctor suggested... Sorry but I feel so low.

I think that one of the things that is making me feel so low is the thought that

things are not working and, who knows, may never work. This though is dragging

me down.

Nightmares can be a low cortisol symptom, isn't it? However (although is too

early in the morning to say for sure) pulse seems to have gone down. Maybe I'm

lowering cortisol too fast.

Basal temperatures are still all over the place, even if I wake up at similar

hours,

To tell the truth all this high pulse problems started a few days (3-4) after I

upped my T3 dose from 56,25 to 62.5. But can one be hyper and have hypo symptoms

like very dry eyes and back pain. Also my latest labs didn't show hyper:

Free T3 : 4.65 pmol/L (2.63-5.7)

(11,30 hours after last T3 dose)

It may sound ridiculous but I somehow feel that to lower T3 is to give up,

because what will happen then to the hypo symptoms...

still have hypo symptoms... I feel sooo lost...

Nick, many thanks for your answer!

Let's see, electrolites were a bit low, but I am supplementing and last times I

have tested were very good. Vitamin B12 and D were low but I have been

supplementing and are quite good now. Ferritin was 120 one month ago or so (have

supplemented iron as well). Aldosterone was actually quite high (way above

range) last month. I asked my doctor and he said is not so uncommon to have high

aldosterone when supplementing HC... As for cortisol, I don't really know, I

have been reducing the dose little by little since clearance (almost 3 months

ago) and I have not noticed clear adverse reactions.

So, this is now my situation 15 HC, 62.5 T3, I feel tired, particularly I can't

face to be standing up, my BP is quite low (10.2/5.9 or lower), heart rate is

high. I still feel hypo symptoms (like dry eyes, back pain, and, of course,

depresion, etc). Basal temps are changing quite a bit but I can't say much about

daily average temps because I haven't been cheking regularly lately. I feel even

less resistant to stress now than before I started any treatment... It is really

hot weather now where I live, 36/37 C and I am having a very bad time coping

with that, my legs hurt and just can't face life right now...

So, I guess everything should be O.K. now, except T3 dose or adrenals. But I

have been trying going up and down both with cortisol and T3 and I can't find

any clear improvements.
