Guest guest
I have asked this before but did not get a good answer. I would like to ask again: I had my amalgams removed a week ago and I am already chelating with DMSA 12.5mg. I was on various vitamins and supplements (including ALA by mistake) since May. Does it make sense to do the hair elements test now? Or is it going to be affected by my supplements? Thanks, SN

I had been taking supplements for 6 years before my hair test and it still clearly showed mineral transport derangement. If your hair test is ambiguous now you can always do a repeat test later. Many of the kids on autism mercury have tests that don't meet the counting rules at first (but also don't look normal) but as chelation progresses the tests do meet the counting rules. The supplement that may affect the results the most was the ALA. It is possible that taking ALA on an improper schedule could have forced mercury deep into tissues where it might not be interfering with mineral transport derangement but still would be making you toxic and sick. There are examples of this in Andy's " Hair Test Interpretation " book (at least I remember one case of someone who had been taking ALA, had a normal looking hair test, but responded to ALA chelation because the improper ALA use mostly forced mercury to the brain). There may be information on the test that might help you to make treatment decisions (like thyroid and adrenal indicators, need for digestive enzymes, and so on).
