Guest guest
Thanks for this input, Val..Interestingly enough (and it may be due to ferritin as you say) my T4 will get a little high for me, but during Graves/Hashitoxicosis (which elevated TSI abs will indicate or no), I get elevated total and Reverse T3..sometimes during these flares, " frees " are okay or near upper part of the range. However, I had a horrible time with a Graves flare in '04..lost 20 pounds, temps actually HIGH (low-grade fever range), fixed/bugged eyes..the whole deal...the ONLY remarkable labs were suppressed TSH and elevated total T3 and elevated TSI and TPO (close to 2000) abs; oh, and ferritin of 8 (I wasn't measuring RT3 and didn't know much about it at the time). I didn't do TSI abs subsequent to these last labs, so the " pooling " theory may be accurate..My pulse and BPs were reasonably low at the time..what I'd normally consider " hypo " ranges. > > One other thing, I know your T3 is pooling and not elevated from the > Graves as your T4 is not high. Guest guest
I would say if your T4 and thus T3 goes high with supressed TSH you possibly need Methimazole and T3 in a block & replace system. Methimazole wil block T4 conversion then oyu replace your thyroid needs with T3 though this does not owkr for everyione doctors often try to do this with T4 meds which si poiintless! And guaranteed ot fail. The reverseT3 goes high as a protective measure from the high T4 levels. -- http://nthadrenalsweb.org/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://faqhelp.webs.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/ http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/

Guest guest
Val: Thx. I have Elaine 's Graves Disease book, so will look this up if you don't know answer for sure, but..does methimazole (and/or propylthiouracil) block T4 production or conversion? and if conversion, does it elevate RT3? Are you then saying that you just try to outpace the RT3 with FT3? Guest guest
O.K...and if I do 8 iron tabs..are these all at once? or spaced out? which could get a little complicated trying to take it away from thyroid meds.. Guest guest
Methimazole inhibits the addition of iodine to thyroglobulin <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroglobulin> by the enzyme thyroperoxidase <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroperoxidase>, a necessary step in the synthesis of triiodothyronine <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triiodothyronine> (T3) and thyroxine <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroxine> (T4). Guest guest
Iron panel results of this type are sometimes seen with Vitamin b12 deficiency.
