Autism Society staff and Board are working today to respond to some of the false statements suggesting a linkage between autism and the shooting. We anticipate some affiliates may be contacted by concerned constituents or get media calls for comments or onsite interviews. Since each of you are a valued member of the Autism Society family, you also might be called or contacted in your local community to speak or comment about this terrible event. We ask that, at this time, calls and requests for comment be referred to our national office so that we can speak with a unified and consistent voice. The Autism Society has long been recognized as the reliable source of quality information that is fair, balanced and accurate and based on facts rather than emotional response. Please refer any request for comment or statement to  Badesch at sbadesch@... or via cell at  for response. Later this afternoon we will issue an official statement on behalf of the Autism Society which will be distributed to our affiliates, board, and advisory panels. Jim Ball, the Autism Society's board chair will be the Autism Society's official spokesperson, and if he is not available to respond, Badesch will represent us.   In addition to providing a consistent message we want to assure responsiveness to all requests for comments.
