I had problems with the Generic and switched to Mexican Cynomel. Still on the

Cynomel and don't intend to change.

If that is the generic cytomel in the US, I found it pointless. It was REALLY weak compaired to the cytomel and weaker still compaired to the cynomel.

Is it really that bad? What kind of things did anyone notice on it? Kitty, I

HAVE the cynomel, as you know, but since my doctor gave me a script for the

generic cytomel, Liothyronine, I thought I had better take it. I did get mine

in the other day...it took 11 business days to come in...not too bad once you

have it. I suppose I will start substituting the good stuff now. :) I wonder

if the compounded hc is not as effective? Hummmmmmm.......

I was only on the generic t3 until I got the cynomel from mexico. I don't have insurance so couldn't afford the prescription anyway! My T3 was very low, 2.7 <2.2-4.4>

I didn't have tested between med changes though.

I felt a big difference but I am sure everyone is different. I still have some of the generic left but don't want to take it! I have never taken compounded HC so can't comment. I take from the source and it seems to work well and no stomach issues from it.

Kitty,

What do you mean re HC, that you 'take from the source'?

Thanks,

I had chest pains, difficulty breathing, tightness in throat. Dr tried to send

me to the ER to see if I was having a heart attack, but scheduled a stress test

at my request. I switched to Cynomel, the stress test came back fine, and

haven't had any of those symptoms since.

I switched over to the Cynomel yesterday afternoon for my dose. For some reason, I felt a bit anxious last night. Is that normal? So far, this a.m., it's not doing me like that, but we'll see! If it's stronger, I wonder if I will have to lower my dose? I'm just on week two of clearance, and I'm at 30 mcg/day. Dealing with getting ferritin levels up, too!

Ok, this is what my doctor put me on. Is this not good? SHOULD I take my Mexican Cynomel instead? I don't want to waste any time here! Jacki, is the Liothyronine the generic they made you switch to?

It is a bit stronger. If you feel better already though I wouldn't worry about it. 30mcg isn't much. Maybe try splitting the dose a bit more? I take it 4 x a day.

Hi, Joan - I found I needed to reduce my dose just slightly from the name brand Cytomel when I switched to Cynomel.  I'm not an expert, but my opinion is that 30 mcg is a very small dose (most need at least 75 mcg) and most likely your anxiety is due to the low ferritin and not high T3...  If you're not dividing your doses, that's also a good idea - I try to not take more than 25 mcg at a time - spread doses 4 hours apart throughout the day.

Jacki, I'm taking mine at 7:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. 12.5 mcg, 12.5 mcg, and 6.25 mcg. So far today I've taken the two doses, and no problems. With this stupid imbalance I have, I guess it could be anything! When you say most people need 75 mcg, does that mean worked up to, or what? I am having to work on my ferritin AND raising Cytomel at the same time, so going slowly. My temps are stable, though, so I'm happy about that. Just want the air hunger thing to go away!

Yes, definitely meant working UP to at least 75 mcg!  Some people end up needing more than that even - I've heard of up to 150 mcg.  I'm currently at 75 mcg myself and holding to see what happens.  I'm 10 weeks in so hoping something will " click " soon for me.  Hang in there - it'll get better!

Jacki, What symptoms are you having now? Just wondering. I hope something clicks for you soon, too.....you are so far in! Congrats! I was 2 1/2 months w/ air hunger before I even got started on Cytomel. :( Thank goodness I felt it was adrenal/thyroid connected, though. (Now I can't remember due to my foggy brain.....did you/are you having the air hunger, too)? :) (And thanks for your replies)!

I'm mainly having hypo symptoms - worse is being SLEEPY 24/7.  Just can hardly stay awake!  Very frustrating.  Also having hair loss, fluid retention, dizziness, weight gain (which I do NOT need), no energy at all - and yes, I do experience the air hunger thing.  I always assumed it was just because I'm very obese and out of shape - but now I think it's due to the thyroid/adrenal issues...  To confuse the issue further, I also have diabetes, sleep apnea, fibromyalgia, and CFS - so it's hard to figure things out sometimes as to what's causing what!  But I DO know that dealing with the adrenal/thyroid issue has helped more than anything in the 20+ years I've had the CFS now.  It was so bad I was in a wheelchair for 6 years - just too weak to even walk or hold my head up...  If I'd only known then about the adrenal aspect, I bet that was mainly what was going on!
