Guest guest
Dear List mates For those that are interested in the preliminary results for the Parental Resilience Survey that information is belowand for those who would like for their experiences and voice to be included in the final study results, the survey link is https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Z89NVV8 Preliminary Study Results The preliminary study results are indicating that the survey supports further need for agency support for families to support mom's and dad's in addition to their child (or children) and further families raising an ASD child do in fact experience different stressors than families raising typical children and it is important that both Mom and Dad remain resilient for their families to be strong. While for those of us raising ASD children, this isn't a surprise, this fact is not evident in the published literature, nor to many State agencies. Given the new Health Care changes that are now in effect, this current lack of "evidence based" literature does not support either continued care or additional care for families with ASD children, potentially placing current federal and state funding at risk for our families. With both budget cuts at the federal and state levels, this lack of published literature is not helping our families. Moreover, the lack of current published literature only supports private insurance companies justification for insurance claim denials. So to further support adding to the published family ASD literature, I am planning on publishing not only the Dissertation, but several other articles from the data collected, in hopes that this data will help support continued care that support families raising an ASD child. To date, the preliminary data supports this cause, however to be accepted in the peer reviewed journals, I need a min number of survey responses (which I are very close at obtaining). For those who still would like for your experience and voice to be included in final study results here is the offiacial University IRB study announcement. Parental Resilience Survey Request My Name is Curtis Cripe. I am a stepfather of an ASD child, health care professional, and a Doctorial candidate with Northcentral University School of Behavioral Health Sciences, Prescott, Arizona. Currently I am conducting a research study that, through your participation, can help other parents, agencies, and potentially government programs. The study is exploring in families raising special needs children how resilient parents can help keep their families strong. This study is focusing on the relationship between each parent's resiliency and how that affects the entire family's resilience and parental stress. As you are well aware, families raising special needs children face unique challenges that parents are required to navigate that differ from families who are not raising an special needs child. These differences are often not understood by family therapists and other support agency members. It is hoped that the results of this study will help influence family therapists by showing what these relationships are when raising a special needs child. The survey should take approximately 20-40 minutes to complete (depending upon your internet connection speed and the time you spend on each question). The survey can be completed by families with both parents, or single parent families. If both parents complete the survey they are required to complete the survey at the same time. It is hoped that many families with both parents do complete the survey, so I can show the relationship between both parents' resilience and how that affects the family. Here is the link to the survey. Please either click on the link or copy it into a browser https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Z89NVV8 A copy of your results that show how resilient each parent is within your family, your overall family resiliency, and how much stress each parent is under will be available after completing the survey. These standardized survey instruments are the same instruments that a family therapist would use, but would require three separate meetings. Therefore, there is value in your results of the survey to you and your family beyond the value this study can bring to other families facing the same challenges. Thank you in advance for your participation. Curtis
