Dear alll:

The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (‘FDDCâ€) has created a new educational tool designed to raise disability awareness guide that may be of interest to some of you.

The guide is entitled “Disability Awareness Through Language Arts and Literacy: Resources for Prekindergarten and Elementary School.†It was created for educators and families to promote positive attitudes toward, and facilitate successful inclusion of, students with disabilities; increase respect and acceptance of individual differences; increase understanding of disabilities and related social issues; and facilitate the development of literacy and language arts skills through activities about disability awareness.

This free guide is written to be as user-friendly as possible, and contains detailed lesson plans and suggested books for different age groups.

To download a free copy of the English version of the Guide:

To download a free copy of the Spanish version of the Guide:

For those of you who are not familiar with the FDDC, the council is a federally funded organization whose purpose is to engage in advocacy, capacity building, and systemic change activities that contribute to a coordinated, consumer and family centered, consumer and family directed, comprehensive system of community services and individualized supports that enable individuals with developmental disabilities to exercise self-determination, be independent, be productive, and be integrated and included in all facets of community life.

Additional information about the FDDC is available at www.FDDC.org. The FDDC has several free publications that are available on its website that may be of interest.
