Guest guest
None scheduled at this time Jeanette. Representative did hold a town hall meeting about Medicaide and the Med waiver a couple of weeks ago. Contact her office and suggest it. Steve Parents of disabled kids blast Florida care State lawmakers heard from parents of disabled children, who said the state seems to prefer warehousing their kids in nursing homes for seniors rather have them be taken care of at home. http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/01/07/3172026_p2_parents-of-disabled-kids-blast.\ html#storylink=addthis > > Are there going to be the " town Hall " meetings with the representatives that > we can speak as a group? > > > > From: sList [mailto:sList ] On > Behalf Of Steve > Sent: Friday, January 18, 2013 1:35 PM > To: sList > Subject: FL House Restraint and Seclusion Bill is Filed > > > > > > Representative has filed a Restraint and Seclusion Bill in the > Florida House of Representatives to be considered in the upcoming > Legislative Session. > > Please consider contacting your State Representative and the Representatives > from the surrounding Districts and asking them to co-sponsor the Bill. > > In 2011 there were 10520 restraints in Florida and in 2012 there were 9613. > 21 Districts, almost 1/3 had increases in the number of restraints. > > In 2011 there were 4637 seclusion's in Florida and in 2012 there were 4122. > > I think we can do much better. > > http://www.myfloridahouse.com/Sections/Bills/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=49504 > SessionId=73> &Sessi\ > onId=73 > > HB 291 - Use, Prevention, & Reduction of Seclusion & Restraint on Students > with > Disabilities in Public Schools > > General Bill by > > Use, Prevention, & Reduction of Seclusion & Restraint on Students with > Disabilities in Public Schools: Requires that manual physical restraint be > used on student with disability only in emergency when there is imminent > risk of serious injury or death to student or others; requires that school > provide medical evaluation after student is manually physically restrained; > prohibits school personnel from placing student in seclusion; requires that > school personnel be trained & certified in use of manual physical restraint; > requires > that school district develop policies relating to use of restraint. > > Effective Date: July 1, 2013 > > Last Event: Filed on Friday, January 18, 2013 9:55 AM >
Guest guest
My 11 year old daughter with Aspergers, OCD and ADHD was handcuffed and put in seclusion for 45 minutes this past December. I have just spend several hours emailing each and every representative with her story. Please share your stories and your outrage so we can stop this abuse of our children. Guest guest
Handcuffs are " mechanical restraint " and not approved for use in Broward County unless your child is under arrest by a School Resource Officer under the Baker Act. If your daughter was put in a seclusion room while in handcuffs I believe that might qualify as a criminal act. The only approved seclusion rooms in Broward are at the three Center Schools. Where and in what type room did this take place? Thanks for stepping up.
