Guest guest
Beverly, Have they ever done a thyroid antibodies test done. They don't always do it with a normal thyroid panel test. My mother has Hashimoto's and one of my son's is hypothyroid. When he was diagnosed I had the rest of us tested (hereditary) and they did a thyroid antibodies which I tested positive for but the normal thyroid panel test came back normal. Maybe if you try that route it might give you some help. Let me know what you find out. Guest guest
I have the papers from Dr. Lowe concerning Thyroid and Fibro. I am willing to send anyone a copy that wishes so. I do not feel I should put the info on the this crew as this paper is heavy FM. I tried emailing each person separately but I do not have email addresses for those who asked. Guest guest
: Some PCPs are very good at dosing for thyroid and diabetes and others are not. My mother's PCP was hopeless and her thyroid bounced all over the place. She went to an endo who has her on a somewhat complicated schedule of synthroid (different strengths on different days but she puts them on the calendar every month and does fine) and she is doing great. Guest guest
I am diabetic type 2 and have Hashimotos disease as well (hypothyroid). I found by switching to naturual thyroid (Armours) from Synthroid (synthetic thyroid) I have a much better control over this condition. My TSH numbers are much lower (1-2) which seems to be the best for me. My Doc fought me about this, as did the pharmacist at the clinic where I buy my drugs. But I prevailed and find it worth the fight. There is a list on Yahoo called NaturalThyroidHormones (NaturalThyroidHormones-subscribe ) and while I am not active on this list, there is a lot of good information there. Guest guest
They are doing a thyroid panel on me. My hair seems to be " lifeless " and its thinning. I'm always cold, and have put on 6 lbs. over the past 3 months that can't be explained. I did have radiation to my chest area, so my oncologist wants to rule out a thyroid problem. Also, could be caused by hormonal imbalance, and I did begin Lupron injections 3 months ago to shut down my ovaries. Anyone else have problems with their thyroid after treatment?? Thanks,
Guest guest
Yes! i am also having thyroid problems. Enlarged at this point and am going to see an endochronologist next month to investigate further. I'm currently taking Levoxyl for a hypo-thyroid. Will be interested to see how you make out. Guest guest
I had a lot of problems with swelling in my hands and feet, water retention, and what appeared to be a goiter developing around my throat. Six months later I still had a swollen area on my throat, so I had an ultrasound of my thyroid which showed a nodule. I then had a thyroid scan, and it turned out to be only a cyst. I am very prone to cysts so this was not unusual. I was told by my doctor that it is common for BC patients who have radiation to develop thyroid cancer - its from exposure to radiation. --------------------------------- Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. Guest guest
I feel like I did that for a long time with cytomel before i had the RT3 issue cropped up. I just tooked 25 mcg, and although my T4 and TSH were suppressed somewhat, I still feel my own thyroid was working marginally. Now, I am not so sure, though Liz > > > > is it possible to just support the thryoid with a small amount of thyroid meds or is our only choice to suppress thyroid and supplement it ?? i mean what if our thyroids are only marginally under producing?? >
Guest guest
In his book, Broda says it's possible, although in reality, I don't think it works for most that way. I worked with one doc who told me with MOST people, the thyroid senses the exogenous thyroid hormone and shuts down most of its own production (although not necessarily 100% shut down.) So MOST people do need to take full replacement even if they had only marginally low output. But he also said there are a FEW people that the pills will just add to what their thyroid makes. As I said, and he said, it is very few, because of the body's feedback loop.
