Guest guest
stephanie - thanks for responding - i tried to answer/comment. How did you find out it was mercury contaminated? What was the source? to be more specific, my mother suspected i had had mercury poisoning on a low grade from the time i was little as my behavior radically changed after some shots when i was 4. she thought i was autistic. I also used thimersol containing contact products for many years. and shots ( i had a bad tick fever when i was eleven and i got shots twice a week for seemed to me like months.) the house i was living had a couple sources of contamination: open bottle of mercurochrome (grandmother left it in the laundry room which was over the dryer and i lived right next to it) these we don't know for sure but my mom thinks were sources also: a giant antique mirror with possible mercury backing, and an antique mirror in the bathroom (this one had the date was prior to when they stopped making mirrors with mercury ) and old paint. also, i was eating a huge amount of tuna - 2 cans a day for a while there. i used to love tuna. i wouldn't have thought this would be enough but...the whole time i lived in that house my face and hands/feet tingled and were numb, i started having pain in my feet and legs and i started drooling in my sleep which i never in my life have done. (ok maybe when i was a kid!)after about 3 months - anxiety attacks, panic etc and i feel bloated all the time - and when i eat > > > This could be dysbiosis and/or inflammation. (ok maybe when i was a kid!)after about 3 months - > anxiety attacks, panic etc > > and i feel bloated all the time - and when i eat I am similar and have had too many exposures like this over my lifetime. I'm glad you mentioned the possible issue with antique mirrors - somehow I have missed this before as a possible source of mercury. I have an old mirror and I'd better look into how old and whether it contains mercury. Thank you for mentioning it! You mention a tick-borne illness when you were 11. I am not sure if treatments for this even at the time of the illness are always effective? Not sure. I don't know much about lyme or related diseases, but I do know they have very similar symptoms to mercury toxicity - and many mercury toxic people have both lyme and mercury. Might be an avenue to explore at some point, to be sure this is not part of your issues. > > This could be dysbiosis and/or inflammation. Maybe other things too, > > but I have had these issues resulting in upper belly bloating. > > > > If it is dysbiosis, things like probiotics, eliminating sugar *and > > fake sugars*, and taking coconut oil or natural antifungals would > > make a difference. > > i know that some of the sugar alcohols had laxative effects but this > feeling is different than that other feeling. plus i tolerate xylitol > well and stevia doesn't have that as a side effect. xylitol i thought > helped to kill yeast in the gut. i don't eat very much of them though > - every now and again i must have chocolate! > i suppose though that i can try these things and see if it gets > better. i take arginine and lysine to help with the gut and also take > coconut oil and probitoic and sometimes yogurt everyday too. What you really want to do is figure out whether the problem is inflammation or dysbiosis or something else, so you know what to address. If you can't figure it out by trying things, at some point you may want to consider a stool test - a comprehensive test like the DDI CSA can give a lot of information about what is going on. I don't know how to interpret these in much detail, but this is the sort of thing that a good alternative practitioner (ND or other) can help with. > i am concerned about taking licorice though as i don't know how that > will affect my adrenals. Either licorice or DGL will help to heal your gut. Licorice is helpful in normalizing adrenal function, but is not the right thing for everyone. Possibly worth considering though, since poor adrenal function is often involved in both dysbiosis and inflammation issues. > > If it is inflammation, removing any irritants (acidic things like > > ALA, betaine hcl, coffee/tea, chocolate, NSAIDS, some others) will > > help, along with trying slippery elm and DGL or licorice to heal > > the lining of your gut. > > > > this feels different than the gas caused by sugar alcohols. wouldn't > excess stomach acid give me heart burn? i've never had heart burn... I think gas would more likely indicate too much stomach acid rather than too little, but I could be wrong. Inflammation can go with too much or too little stomach acid. I had inflammation with too little stomach acid. The suggestions above can help if inflammation is the problem. When you mentioned your experience with naproxen that really made me think inflammation. NSAIDS can really irritate the stomach and cause serious stomach problems in some people. I had problems with ibuprofen, and I cannot take it at all because of stomach issues. For you, it could be aggravating an already irritated/inflamed stomach. > > Could be gas due to fake sugars, dysbiosis, or excess stomach acid. > > also - i am getting up int he > > > night to pee - sometimes so strong is the urge i don't make it. i > > > > > > > > I have heard of people having this problem with dysbiosis issues. > > > > > > > > i am worried that it might be liver trouble - apparently early stages > > > > > > now tummy is huge and the scale says i gained three pounds over > > > night. i do pretty strict atkins. i do have sugar free treats > > > though - these have sweeteners like splenda, xylitol, maltitol etc > > > could naproxen or sweeteners be affecting my liver? > > If you do have low stomach acid, doing strict atkins could be pretty hard on digestion. You would not be able to digest all that protein well. The sugar free treats can have other nasties in them, artificial colors/flavors, other chemicals I'm sure. Something to be aware of. -- > I should do some research on this. > > > They could certainly affect the stomach (either dysbiosis or > > inflammation).
