Did you know that autism affects nearly 4 million people in the USA, with an unemployment rate of up to 90%?

Did you also know that the corporate sector lacks specialists in fields such as software testing and development? We have a unique opportunity to bridge the job gap, and make Florida lead our great nation, with innovative models to do so.

UM-NSU CARD, along with ASHOKA, are hosting Danish entrepreneur Thorkil Sonne who will share his revolutionary model with us. He founded the company Specialisterne (The Specialists) 8 years ago to demonstrate how the skills of people with autism can have a competitive advantage within tasks like software testing, analysis, quality control and data entry.

Miami-Dade Teen Time

UM-NSU CARD is offering Miami-Dade teens (ages 13-19) with Asperger's Syndrome the opportunity to interact with other teens once a month through social activities. Themes include game night, movie night, chess night, and other fun things to do. This group is free, but registration is required.

FIU Lecture: " Teaching Conversational Skills "

Language is all about social interaction. However, it is often difficult to make the transition from using language to request items, to using language for the purpose of social interaction. Tips to promote and facilitate conversational language will be presented in this lecture by Slappey.

EIBI, a new program by Florida International University, offers one-to-one intervention and individualized skill building in the areas of communication and socialization. Presented by UM-NSU CARD and Disability Independence Group, this free seminar answers the question, " What if your child finds himself or herself involved with law enforcement?
