I would personally feel comfortable going to Cranial tech for an evaluation. I believe it is free of charge and that way you will have a better idea what you are dealing with. They will do measurments and have the experience to tell you whether they recommend banding. Cranial Tech only does helmets so they are quite experienced and can really be a source for advice and help. Call and go there first then post the results of the eval here and we can further help you. I would go with your gut. go to pt and I am unsure about chiro in young children but good luck with that. Does insurance cover that or is the chiro making nice cash every time you go. May be their reason for not wanting the helmet,,,, <Mitchandjim@...> wrote: Hello, my name is and I have a son who will turn 7 months old on Tuesday. To make a long story kinda short..he has plagio and torticollis. It took his pediatrician 4 months to beleive me that he seemed "off", finally he referred us to Early Intervention and they said he has tort. We have been seeing both a Chiropractor and Osteopath, and the Chiropractor doesnt want to call it torticollis because his whole right side is involved and he says it is birth related and he is going thru and "unwinding" process. The Osteo says you can call it torticollis, but with it involves more than just his neck muscle, so its more than that. She also said he has the Plagio thing. I am having a

very hard time, because the pediatrician is so laid back about it all. The Chiro doesnt even think he needs the PT he is getting 1x a week (I do), and both the Chiro and the Osteopath think that this will resolve with their treatment and time, no need for helmet/bands or testing. In fact the Chiro is actually against the helmet/band. So I have been going by their advice to continue treatments they are doing...but his head shape really bugs me, and his face has some asymetry (sp?) His one ear is forward a bit, as well as his forhead. ANd his right eye seems to turn in. We took him to a pediatric optimoligist for his eye and she thought it just "looked" like it turned in (strambisis) because of the bridge of his nose..but it still really bugs me.So anyway, I have been going back and forth on whether I should just continue the PT and trust the Chiro and Osteopath that it will resolve. Or whether I should take him to

Cranial Tech or Childrens Memorial and get him looked at and consider a band... and maybe xrays or something. I posted on the torticollis website too, but I wanted to ask the plagio board what you thought. What would you all do? Is anyone in a similar situation? Oh, last question. I dont know whether to take him to Crainial Tech or to Childrens Memorial Hospital who has the Starscanner equipment that actually maps the head, and a cranialfacial surgeon and a neurosurgen. What would the difference be? Does Cranial tech check for what would be causing the plagio and tort and stuff, do they recommend testing or anything, or do they just evaluate the headshape and recommend to band or not? Should I go with the place with the cranialfacial surgeon and neurosurgen since he has other stuff going on like tort as well as plagio so they can check him for more wrong or what is causing it? I dont know the difference between

Cranial Tech and other locations. Also, what is better.. the band from Cranial or other helmets. It seems like everyone really likes the DOC band thingy. Can you tell me why?I'm so sorry if I am asking too many questions... I did this on the tort board too. Its just so nice to finally have someone to talk to about it who knows what I am going through! I am so glad I found these boards!Thank you!

Just a little note on my personal experience with Chiros, they don't recomend PT and that is often a big mistake. I know that every time I went to see mine (for whiplash and sprained shoulder) I would feel great after I left and then a couple days later I was pretty much back to the same pain I had before. It took a lot of strengh training and streaching to get me anywhere close to normal, and pain free. But that doesn't mean that what the chiro does isn't helping. I think you are doing the right thing by going to both of them. But, I would also go see CT, I keep hearing that if the head hasn't started to round out at 6 months it probably will not do it on its own. And if you are worried about the scanner, the CT in Arlington, VA now does scans instead of casting. We just had ours done a couple weeks ago.
