Guest guest
Kate, not to alarm you, but I was born in Detroit and lived in Michigan until I was nearly ten years of age!Our family moved to the L.A. Basin, then to Oregon--where I met my husband-to-be-in college--then back to California, and eventually to the SF Bay Area--big hockey team in San (yet!).Love and courage to you,nTo: MSersLife Sent: Sat, March 12, 2011 12:17:27 PMSubject: Re: Lake Placid It IS a hugely expensive excursion, Akiba. Fortunately, work has started to pick back up for Lloyd. At some point, I'm going to get a part time job...as I think I mentioned, I was told I could make up to $1000 and not lose my disability. Not that I'm going to find something that pays that, but even if I could make $200 a week, I'd be happy. I'm so happy hockey is almost over--at least for a little while. Now maybe I can get back to church, which I've badly missed! My daughter has States next week. I'm kinda praying that they don't make it to Nationals--they are out in Detroit! THAT trip would be exorbitant also, so hopefully it won't come to that. I doubt it will--we're playing Rochester and Buffalo. They practically learn to skate before they're even walking in those places! Buffalo won last year. They're very good.love you, Akiba,KateTo: MSersLife Sent: Fri, March 11, 2011 3:01:21 PMSubject: Re: Lake Placid Wow, this seems to be a hugely expensive trip...I hope it doesn't strain your resources too badly...there is still a lot of month left to get through financially... ~*~Hugs~*~ ~*~Akiba~*~ Pragmatic Visionary http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/pages/156.php -- Lake Placid Hi Friends,Well, finally made it. It took us 5 hours, and there was heavy rain and snow as I traveled northward, but we made it. We're staying at a ritzy Crowne Plaza--very nice. and I went out to dinner, and it was $50 for just the 2 of us! Expensive up here. He had his favorite--fettucini alfredo, and I had broccoli rabe with chicken, penne pasta olive oil and garlic. Drinks and a slice of cheesecake added to the bill. I hope we can eat cheap at least for lunches--I can't drop this much money; it already cost us $700 for the tournament fees, hotel and whatnot.'s first game is at 8am tomorrow. We're both beat from the trip, but I had wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing, especially with the wicked weather so many of us are having! Guest guest
Wow, you've really been around, n! Detroit I find daunting as I hear it's a huge industrial city, AND I cannot imagine how much airplane tickets will be from NY. Yet another expense.Which of all of these places have you enjoyed the most? Or were they equally fine? I believe moving at a young age can help a child become an adaptable adult. That probably describes you well!love to you n,KateFrom: marion j rojas To: MSersLife Sent: Sat, March 12, 2011 3:23:11 PMSubject: Re: Lake Placid/ hockey, etc./ for Kate & group Kate, not to alarm you, but I was born in Detroit and lived in Michigan until I was nearly ten years of age!Our family moved to the L.A. Guest guest
Portland, Oregon was really beautiful with wonderful people, but I must admit that I just adore Berkeley, the CAL campus, and the whole SF Bay Area. I have traveled a lot, too, and whom one encounters makes a huge difference. I must admit to being inordinately fond of British Columbia, in Canada, just above Washington State. If you look on a map, you can see that Detroit is actually an "Eastern" city, not that far from New York City, and more likeit--in my day--than like Chicago. I have a good time whereverI go--so did my parents and all but one of my siblings!Michigan is going through its own version of the crisis in Wisconsin, but the auto industry is re-building and there is a planto build houses in the down-town parts of Detroit that are empty.Love to you and wishing you the best with all your travels, Kate!nTo: MSersLife Sent: Sat, March 12, 2011 3:00:30 PMSubject: Re: Lake Placid/ hockey, etc./ for Kate & group Wow, you've really been around, n! Guest guest
I have two heart sisters in Michigan - one in Port Huron retired last year from Civil Service - another Okie - the other lives in Traverse City - she is the writer - the governor of Michigan is trying to destroy Michigan - to the point that their recovery will be long delayed God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.
