Guest guest
What are some of you experiencing on pulse rates, at rest, when active, and when exercising? Mine has risen considerably under the least activity recently, so I am calling the doctor first thing tomorrow. Until just recently, my pulse rate stayed nicely below 90 even when walking around the apartment. On the treadmill is would rise and stay around 110 at 2 or 2.5 mph. Yesterday, when I got on the treadmill it topped 130 and just moving around the apartment it has consistenly gone between 90 and as high as 130. So overall, in a short time it appears to have risen about 20 points. Many possible reasons from the simplest like sinuses to PH to other heart issues. The numbers themselves aren't as much a cause for alarm as is the very sudden and recent change. Also, even with my sats ok, with the high pulse, I'm very out of breath. So, just wondering about others?
Guest guest
Bruce ... I can't be of any help here 'cause my heart skips beats and I consistently get the strangest readings. From the 30s to 120s. I don't know how I'd know if I DID develop a problem... I know you'll let us know what the dr says. MamaSher, age 70. IPF 3-06, OR. Guest guest
Bruce, Mine has been like that from the beginning. When I am sob my sats are usually only in the low 90s but my heart easily goes up to 160 on any type of exertion. I have had my heart tested, have slight pulmonary hypertension, but other than that nothing and the doctor has no clue why it happens. I now stop whatever I am doing if my heart rate goes above 150. On the treadmill I have increased my oxygen to 6 continuous and that has helped and I take longer warming up. Certain activities really push my heart rate ( singing more than one song at church puts it at 200!) and I have either stopped them or do them slower watching my hr carefully. The bottom line is I watch my hr as closely as my O2. Hope this helps- R. Guest guest
Bruce, My pulse acts as you describe and has since I was diagnosed. At complete rest, as in when I'm sleeping, my pulse is in the 60's. I just sat down here after walking around the house putting some laundry away and my pulse is in the high 80's. If I sit for awhile it will eventually settle into the 70's. When I exercise it goes to between 120-140. I do agree that a call to your doctor is in order. Mostly because it's changed. That's what strikes me as most significant. Please keep us posted, you know how we all worry! Guest guest
Bruce, Do you have a quick recovery of your heart rate after exercise ( treadmill)? I have to rest at least 10 minutes sometimes more to get back into the normal range for me. upper 70s to 80s Toodles! Guest guest
Amazing what logging for a while can do. I think at least much of the problem was a result of me doing too much laundry. I have known that anaerobic affects me much more than aerobic exercise and generally avoid lifting any weight. However, I was doing a lot of laundry. Now, I just did a test. Moving a load of wash from the washer to the dryer my oxygen on 3lpm dropped to 90 and my pulse rose to 132. Two minutes later I was back to 98% and 95 pulse. I then rested a little and got on the treadmill. I used 4 lpm and walked at 2 mph mostly although briefly at 2.5 mph. In 30 minutes, I covered 1.02 miles it said, although it sure did seem like I was right where I started. Now at 2 mph I reached 95% and 119, then at 2.5 mph I reached 92% and 125 (note: normally if I'm going to walk at 2.5 mph I use 5 lpm but wanted a log here). I then went back to 2 mph and stayed at 94% and around 122-125 pulse. After, I sat on the sofa. In four minutes at 2 lpm I was at 98% and 102 pulse. In fifteen minutes with no oxygen I was at 96% and 90 pulse. In 22 minutes the pulse is at 88. So yesterday I'm convinced I'd done many loads of laundry and my muscles were very tired. My heart had been forced to beat hard. What now? I'll track again tomorrow night and see what things look like. At least I'll have some accurate information to really know. I also know laundry doesn't agree with me....any volunteers? lol > > > > > > Bruce, > > > My pulse acts as you describe and has since I was diagnosed. Guest guest
bruce have found that my sats may be 96-97 and if not wearing oxygen my pulse rate has been as high as 145. so my heart has been compensating for my lack of oxygen and able to keep the sats decent.. but i do feel the consequences.. light headed and not as clear.. patti, ipf 7'06, nj > > > What are some of you experiencing on pulse rates, at rest, when active, > and when exercising? Guest guest
Hi Brue, My wife was terribly busy in the kitchen and I asked if I could do laundry for her. Little did she know how little I really knew about the new front loaders. She told me I could do the towels and that sort of thing. I’m a fixer not a measurer so I got the super duper concentrate out and proceeded to fill that hole where the soap should go. Probably about 8 oz instead of the 2 it called for). After running 5 hours worth of cycle w/3-4 restarts I finally got the dumb thing to get past that little light that spells SUD up on the panel They sure smelled goooood. I really think she doesn’t’ like me anymore .Really though I was doing good after cutting me hair Tuesday hair on Tuesday From: Breathe-Support [mailto:Breathe-Support ] On Behalf Of Bruce Moreland Sent: Sunday, December 07, 2008 8:56 PM To: Breathe-Support Subject: Re: Pulse Rate Amazing what logging for a while can do. Guest guest
SGIO Well, log I did tonight indicates not as bad as it seemed yesterday. I'll monitor and record. One of the things I've experienced throughout is a huge response to bending and/or lifting. I don't carry anything of weight from the car, but have a cart I use. Laundry does get to me more than any other thing I do around the house. I think it just got me so tired that then I was in no shape for a treadmill. Tonight was much different. My numbers weren' t outrageous, just very different than what I was use to. So, I'll see tomorrow and a couple more days. If it reverts I will get to the doctor. As to laundry, understand I spent most of my career in the apparel industry so do know fabrics, dyes, all those things. So, when it comes to sorting, I have a great system. I also have some fold up baskets (inexpensive and great) that fit in the floor of the closet so when I remove items I sort on into the right washer load then. These are much better than normal laundry hampers because they are low and also very light. Also one basket matches up perfectly to a load, as long as the basket isn't overfilled. > > > > > > > > > > Bruce, > > > > > My pulse acts as you describe and has since I was diagnosed.
