Guest guest
Diane, I just read this message & must also add a FAIR WARNING to take care to watch for bad reactions to Statin Drugs... this week, my Sister-in-Law has just ended up serioulsy ill in Hospital with Kidney & Liver Failure directly caused by one of these drugs. She's been taking Lipitor for some years but it suddenly caused a bad skin rash. Her doctor put her on another Brand & now after a year of taking that she's develped this serious complication. Her muscle were breaking down & flooding her bloodstream...in turn that affected her liver & kidneys. It came on qwuite fast.. she'd noticed her Urine had turned dark & brown... her muscles were aching like billio ... the ER Drs said if she'd left it ONE more day they couldn't have saved her! She's now considered stable but still at risk of developing Septicaemia.. I looked up the Lipitor Drug site & sure enough it's all in there.. but when I just opened my new prescription packet for the stuff there was no leaflet explaining possible side-effects! Why are people not monitored for these rotten things if they are prescribed the drugs????????? What I find scary is that she has been on them for years & years... I would've thought if there was to be a bad reaction it would've happened sooner rather than later! I'm sorry you have had such a rough trot Diane... it's so dreadful been messed about with by any system... it seems so unfair! Regards, in Oz >> Sounds like you have a lot going on. I happened to notice you were on Lipitor-PLEASE watch yourself on this. I fell out of bed in April 2006 from being on Lipitor for 2 1/2years. At first they though it was a Fibromyalgia flareup. Then I went for a muscle biopsy and they confirmed I had Polymyositis-a muscle disease which they think was probably caused by Lipitor. In turn I progressed so fast that it caused the PF as well. They wasted so much time trying to figure out medications to get me started on the good cells left in my body just kept getting worse and I could never go into any type of remission or good feeling days because the meds weren't working! I have been in constant pain and fight every day to stay moving and alive. Finally this past June I begged them for pain med and they put me on Loratab 5/500 4xday. I can't move without taking this now. I had gone to Pittsburgh in June of2007 (after I had a stroke in April 07 due to IVIG treatment they tried) and the doctor wanted to know why NY doctors didn't treat me properly and start me on meds right away. Unfortunately not much was documented and I don't have the energy to fight with a lawyer so I just live day by day now. Look up all meds related and make sure you take them all correctly and they all don't interact. It's important for your treatment to be well informed. Try to get your cholesterol down by diet if possible-the most natural, vegetarian way as possible. The Lipitor isn't worth the muscle problems-trust me! I respect you trust your doctors and you have to do what you feel is right. I only offer my opinion because I hate thinking of others suffering out there as well. Good luck to you. Guest guest
One of the things I've been most disappointed in is the doctors putting patients on meds and not monitoring for the side effects. It goes from Prednisone to even some of those that cause the fewest side effects. In most cases its simple blood tests. I saw someone recently put on Imuran and no blood tests scheduled when monitoring Liver Enzymes especially is so critical and such standard protocol. We prescribe more surgeries than needed but overlook simple routine blood tests. > > > > Sounds like you have a lot going on. I happened to notice you were on > Lipitor-PLEASE watch yourself on this. Guest guest
Maybe Lipitor is the kind of drug that has to build up in the system before the bad side effects show up Recently there have been articles about certain foods having negative effects or reactions with certain drugs. At least she noticed the changes in her urine, etc and got herself to a hospital. Guest guest
Joyce I read some articles after seeing this topic. Lipitor has been very widely prescribed. There are many reports similar to the ones and others have commented on. Yet, I've read from heart specialists saying Lipitor may be the biggest life saver there is and should be prescribed more. So, the only real balance in all this is if you are on it get regular blood tests. I think perhaps the entire issue of blood tests and labs needs relooking at. Each doctor I've seen has ordered a few different ones and found different things. There do not appear to be standards but variations by every physician. I think there needs to be a much more comprehensive annual group and for anyone with any condition and on any meds there needs to be more frequently repeated tests. They are the simplest, most revealing means we have. > > > > Sounds like you have a lot going on. I happened to notice you were on Lipitor-PLEASE watch yourself on this. Guest guest
Sher, Do you know exactly HOW he monitored you... was it a particular type of blood test??? GIO> >> > Sounds like you have a lot going on. Guest guest
Yes that does seem to be the implication Joyce but all the more reason to be monitored I feel... it certainly isn't logical that it would happen 'overnight'. By the time her urine turned dark she was already in big trouble. GIO> >> > Sounds like you have a lot going on. I happened to notice you were on Lipitor-PLEASE watch yourself on this.
