Guest guest
Did your son wear the helmet at night only for the entire 5 months? If so, then it seems very plausible that you wouldn't see the correction you desired as the head is growing and you never know when plus you would be missing 12 or so hours of growth during the day possibly. The band relies on growth. I think the majority of the babies that have been banded here wore the band the majority of the time 23/7. My son wore his band 23/7 from 7.5-9.5 months. While his head still has a little assymetry (3mm)...it is only noticeable to me and I am pleased with the results we got. If you aren't happy, then I would consider another helmet. My son didn't have tort so I have no idea if it is better to wear the band less (and longer) so he can wear the tot collar and thera-togs suit more OR if it would be better to wear the band 23/7 and then when he graduates wear the tot collar and thera-togs suit while keeping him off his back as much as possible. In my opinion, I would think wear the band 23/7 and then the tot collar and thera-togs suit when he graduates. I would ask your PT though. > > My son out grew his helmet but still is not rounded out yet. It's > been five months now. Guest guest
My son outgrew his helmet at 8 months and had to get another which he learned to take off at 10 months so we had to give up at that point. I can still look at him and tell his head is some what off and sunglasses do not fit quite right. I would get another if you think he still needs it, I wish my son could have worn his longer. > > My son out grew his helmet but still is not rounded out yet. It's > been five months now. Guest guest
My son graduated from his first helmet at 8 months. Although the results were good, he continued to sleep on the flatter side and actually regressed 5mm. He got a second band at 12 months and has been in it for 13 weeks now. The results have been tremendous. In our case, he has experienced several growth spurts in the last few weeks which have really helped with the reshaping. Every baby is different, but as long as they are growing you can achieve more correction. If you are not happy with the results then you should definitely consider a second band. Is there a Cranial Technologies office anywhere near you? If so, I would strongly recommend going to them. They will band up to 24 months and they are just wonderful. My son's first helmet was from Hangar and they were okay. His current band is from CT; I drive an hour and a half every two weeks to CT for adjustments and it is worth every minute!!! > > > > My son out grew his helmet but still is not rounded out yet.
